the Orams protested, a
matter of plight. facts on
the ground was a plea
to be heard, on the ground.

what was the case, not
property, its ownership unquestionable
but passage, the trespass
an issue sponsors pressed
this far. the results are monumental
for plunderers worldwide
a signal, without consent
there is no issue to plea

...so it is a victory for all Cypriots
it is a victory for all Mankind, indeed
for all Humanity because what is
a Universal Right, prevails.

:

I am just wondering what the Orams case has 'achieved'.

If what is has achieved is recognition in courts outside the RoC that pre 74 GC owners remain legal owners of property in the North, then that was already the case with the ECHR rulings that came before the Orams case.

Certainly it has achieved damage to the sale of property in the North to those with EU assets. Maybe this will help the propsects for a solution but it just as easy to imagine that it has and will worsen them.

We need a political solution. These limited private civil actions are just that, limited private civil actions and ones that do not result in any return or resolution even re the indivdual property concerned let alone in general terms.
January 31, 2010
By Helen Christophi

PANICOS Neocleous, author of the 2009 book, The Ignored: 1974, which presents 50 interviews with former Greek Cypriot soldiers about their experiences fighting during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, is preparing a new volume of interviews, this time including accounts from Turkish Cypriot and mainland Greek and Turkish participants and their families.

Neocleous says the purpose of his first book was to demonstrate how the Greek government and military “betrayed Cyprus”, as well as to highlight the behaviour of the Turkish military and the United Nations during the war. And more than anything, Neocleous wanted to show how the “Cypriot government ignored its own Greek Cypriot fighters”. But he characterises his current collection as a tool for “sending a message of peace in Cyprus” to the country’s younger generations.

“They are the stories of Greek and Turkish Cypriots,” says Neocleous. “All I meet, the people who suffered [during the invasion], speak of peace. We will try to use this as a message for the young people to work for peace.”

Neocleous has collected nine accounts thus far, but the story of Soyat Kafatar, the sole survivor of an 84-person massacre of Turkish Cypriots in the village of Tochni by EOKA B forces in the summer of 1974, stands out as an example of the book’s purpose. Soyat, his father, and the other males of the village were arrested, bussed to the fields outside Agia Phila, and shot dead. All except Soyat, who survived by virtue of his father’s brains having splattered onto Soyat’s face when he was shot in the head, and the killer skipping over Soyat on the assumption that the detritus in which he was covered was his own.

Soyat played dead until the soldiers left the field to fetch bulldozers to dispose of the freshly-killed corpses. He escaped into the woods and eventually settled in the village of Bouno in the occupied north of the island.

At the end of the interview Neocleous asks Soyat to characterise his feelings toward Greek Cypriots: “Love,” responds Soyat, followed by a resolve to “not blame all Greeks for the evil done”.

Soyat’s story is not the only one in Neocleous’ books that has resulted in forgiveness between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. An account in The Ignored tells how a Turkish Cypriot soldier, Fat’hi Akinci, fired what should have been a fatal bullet into the head of a Greek Cypriot fighter, Yiannis Maratheftis, led to their meeting 35 years later and formed a warm friendship.

Now, schools are inviting Neocleous’ Greek and Turkish Cypriot interviewees to speak to students about peace. They made one presentation in Limassol last December and are scheduled to make a second presentation in the same city next month.

“The majority of young people do not know what happened in Cyprus,” Neocleous asserts. “Many of the pupils are hearing this for the first time, and from those who lived it, from the people who suffered in the war. I want to leave the truth for future generations.”
Steve comments:
Erden, there are plenty of GCs who acknowledge 2 sides to every story & who know that there were wrongs commited by both sides in this conflict. Both sides still suffer from the tragedy of 1974.

Erden comments:
Finally, a Greek Cypriot who acknowledges that there is 2 sides to every story and Greek Cypriots were not as innocent as they like to believe. Well done
This is a great initiative. However perhaps it should be todays politicians and the Archbishop that the initiative is aimed at.

The biggest sin of the first generation of settlers was not the return to Judea and Samaria; the return to the land of our forefathers is not a sin. We returned to a place to which we have a historic belonging. The story of the People of Israel has much more to do with Gush Etzion than with Tel Aviv. But the big mistake for which we are now paying the price is that we did not dare, we did not agree, we were unable to look around and say: there are other people here. You have to know how to live with them and how to accept them."

The indictment puts forward several pieces of evidence for a frightening planned act of terror of the junta nested within the Naval Forces Command against young students visiting the Koç Museum. excuses, and directing blame at others, seems to be a normal tactic from the generals. i especially like the idea that a large cache of explosives were forgotten in a submarine, now a museum piece...
NICOSIA-The island’s two leaders have achieved significant progress on the governance issue during Friday’s meeting, UN envoy Alexander Downer told journalists.

“The leaders have left the meeting feeling positive and there will be a bit more to say next week when the UN Secretary-General is here and the leaders meet with him on Monday afternoon,” he also said.

Friday’s meeting concluded the second round of UN-led intensive talks, as part of their effort to find a negotiated settlement to the Cyprus problem.
Asked whether the chapter on governance has been concluded or not, the UN official reiterated that the leaders will have more to say about this on Monday afternoon.

“So, I am not going to go into any of the details here”, he added.
On the future of the peace process, Downer said that the leaders are going to talk about future programming during the meeting on Monday with Ban Ki-moon.

Levels in Spirituality

Miracles are just fundamental level of elementary schools, which are widely spread everywhere, by the wish of God. Even evil people can do these miracles by black magic. The idea behind such wide covering range of miracles is that these miracles are useful in converting atheists into theists. For such elementary work, human incarnations or professors are not necessary.

The next level is Jnana Yoga, which is the level of high schools. The high schools are lesser in number than elementary schools because only some converted theists start the enquiry about the subject (Jnana Yoga) of the unimaginable God, since His existence was indirectly proved through the unimaginable miracles and He is the source of the unimaginable power behind the miracles.

The next higher level is formation of theoretical love (Bhakti Yoga) or devotion on the Lord since a few of the scholars of God get this and this level is the level of colleges.

The ultimate highest level is practical devotion (Karma Yoga) or service to God, which is the level of University and is very rare since a few of devotees only can become servants of God through practical sacrifice of work and fruit of work. The scientific analysis of divine knowledge (Jnana Yoga) is pervading all the four levels as the basic torchlight. In the first level, the existence of God is accepted. In the second level, the existence of unimaginable God is accepted.

In the third level, the representatives of God like statues in human form are worshipped by words and mind to get rid of ego and jealousy towards human form. In the fourth level, the decision of the final conclusion of the intellectual analysis results in detecting the contemporary human incarnation and involve in a practical service in His mission.
You are admitted in the college and your main aim is to get the degree. If you fail in the exams your main aim is upset, therefore, you should not get tension. Similarly you should have tension if the main aim of the human life i.e., to achieve the grace of God, fails. Except that, all this family life and relationships are only extra curricular activities. In your college life, a game is conducted as an extra curricular activity. Suppose you are defeated in it. You should take it sportively and not seriously, because that is not the main aim. Therefore take everything in life sportively, because, this life is not the ultimate aim. If family life only is the goal, even animals and birds have their family lives. The speciality of human life is to think and achieve the grace of God.

:

...we have a definition of Property, this is good news because a Universal Tenent has been upheld under tremendous pressure. ironicly we can thank the Turkish State (and British) in demonstrating its value still.

as Cypriots we can hope now that this Principal is clear, and that it can be a foundation on which our freedom is based. it is for this reason that i have suggested that Bicommunally, as Individuals and as Persons demands a definition of Bizonality which follows with an end to the island torn in two as a 'fait accompli', and where at least for some a return as communities is possible, in the north and in the south, by adding to our geography enclaves.

we can live respectfully for each other as one People, while as Peoples respecting ourselves. three governing bodies must exist: a State that is Sovereign and two National Assemblies whose Jurisdiction is to serve a territory madeup of components that extend across the whole island.

...it may be that in this particular case the owner may not be able to return to his home to enjoy it himself, but he is now able to rent it to someone else at least to enjoy its benefit, we hope. if it is not torn down, this would be a sensible step forward. if the authorities determine to stand beligerant, there will no longer be any reason for the International community to consider its credibility.
the Orams did not win, they are packing their bags to leave quickly.

the rights of a property holder have been upheld; 'facts on the ground' are meaningless, if tresspass is evident.

The problem is RW is that the claimant still has no more access or ability to use his property than when he started this legal action.

The Orams will apply for permission to demolish the house. They will be refused such permission. They will leave the house and report to the UK court that they have done all in their power to met the requirments of the RoC judgments and maybe even symbolicaly hand over keys to the property they have been ordered to demolish. The financial penalties will be paid, though the Orams will no doubt get assistance with this. They may also be 'compensated' by the TRNC with another property in the North. THe financial penalties that will accrue to the claimant are fairly minimal, the lawyers have made millions.

The Orams will loose the use of the property in the north, but the plantif will not get such use either.

In some senses it is a 'victory' in as far as it undermines the sale of such property in the future but in terms of the the claimant getting back his property it has achieved nothing.

It may have helped or hindered the peace process. Time will tell. What it is not however is any sort of solution, not to the wider cyprus problem or even really to those that have lost land.

General Chat :: Unimaginable limits of space are God

Subject: Unimaginable limits of space are God
Posted: Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:56 pm (GMT 3)
:

Unimaginable limits of space are God

Let Me even say that the unimaginable limits of space are God. The scientist agrees the existence of these unimaginable limits of space and therefore the scientists is agreeing to the existence of God. Even the common man is experiencing the existence of these unimaginable limits of space by seeing the space with his naked eyes. The scientists see the space through the telescope and arrive at the same conclusion. The human intelligence cannot cross the four-dimensional space-time model at any cost on any day. The beginning and the end of the space (limits of boundary) are always untouchable and unimaginable for the intelligence of even top most scientists.

If he crosses the limits of this space, certainly he can touch (Know) God who is beyond the space or exists in the limits of space. The unlimited space stands forever reminding the scientist regarding this eternal truth. Thus, the Universe is visible to all human beings in all times exhibiting the unimaginable item through its unimaginable limits. This Universe is a practical proof and the clear miracle of God available to all to declare this basic concept for every human being on this earth. Nobody needs the demonstration of any miracle other than this to indicate the unimaginable God. The miracles are not available to all in all times. Even if some miracle is demonstrated, people may conclude it as illusion or coincidence of events. But in this demonstrated example of unimaginable limits of space, there is no such controversy. Moreover, in this miracle there is no hope to disprove the unimaginable limits of space in future even according to the opinion of scientists.

There cannot be two or more than two unimaginable items. Hence, the unimaginable limits of the Universe are showing only one unimaginable God directly to every human being. Since, you do not perceive the limits of the Universe, you have not perceived God. The existence of unperceivable limits establishes the unimaginable limits. The Universe is exhibiting its unperceivable and unimaginable limits. This means that you have not seen these limits. Hence, you have not seen the unimaginable limits, which are God.

But the existence of unimaginable and unperceivable limits is exhibited. This means that the unperceivable and unimaginable God exists and His existence is clearly exhibited. This Universe itself exhibits the existence of such God. From this, the conclusion is that you have understood only the existence of unperceivable and unimaginable God but this does not mean that you have seen or imagined God. Veda says “Asteetyeva Upalabdhavyah” which means that you can know only the existence of the unknowable God. Veda says that God is unperceivable and unimaginable (Na Chakshusha…, Yasyaamatam…..). Gita also confirms that God is unimaginable (Mamtuveda Nakaschana…).

General Chat :: How to overcome worry

How to overcome worry

Try to enjoy the worry
When worry is inevitable, enjoy it and be wise
Even continued happiness leads to mental worry
Thus happiness and worry must be alternative
If you are worried by the continued happiness
You are worried at the cost of the result of your good effort

Instead of this it is better to get worry at the cost of your sin
Let the sin give some trouble and then you worry out of it
In this way the result of the sin is spent and the not the result of good effort
The loss in your present worry may be compensated in the future
But the time lost in your past worry cannot be compensated
Because the life span of any human being is fixed

Your loss may be compensated by million times in the future
But even one second of your lost time can never be compensated
Therefore, understand this and think about the value of the time
This knowledge of the value of time is called as ‘Kala Janana’
Which means the knowledge of the future that you should know,

Which provides the possibility of the compensation of all the loss
Except the loss of time, therefore, time is the most precious.
You may waste anything that can be again procured in the future,
But never waste the time, which you can never compensate.

There are two ways to escape the mental worry in this world
The first way is by obtaining the peace, which is zero
The second way is by achieving the bliss, which is plus
Worry is minus, peace is zero and bliss is plus
To escape minus, either you should be in zero or in plus

Bliss can be obtained only from the Lord in this world
Since Veda says that the Lord alone is bliss “Anando Brahma”
Veda also says that the Lord alone can give you the bliss
“Esha Hyeva Anandayati” this is quite logical in fact
The water is alone cool and so it alone can give coolness
Whatever is said in the Vedas, it is always logical
Subject: Free Will?
Posted: Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:18 pm (GMT 3)
:

Q.) If everything is according to the will of the Lord, who is the overall controller, there is no independence for any human being in this world. In such case the human being should not receive the fruits of its actions. How do you justify this?

Ans) The Lord is controlling all the souls as per Veda “Aatmeshwaram”, which means that all the souls are ruled by the Lord. Gita also says the same “Bhuthanaam Eeswarah”. But this does not mean that there is no independence for the soul. When the king rules the kingdom, all the people in that kingdom are independent in their activities, but they are within the rules of the king.

Thus a short span of independence in the human life exists under the control and supervision of the Lord. A cat caught a rat by its jaws. It leaves the rat after a bite for a short span of time. In that span the rat gets independence and runs in any side as it likes. But the cat is watching the rat and catches it again whenever the rat is out of the limits of the supervision. Similarly the Lord called “Kaala” (death) catches a human being and bites.

The bite is the illness of the human being. The repeated diseases are the repeated bites of the ‘Kaala” or the Lord. During the bite the rat looses completely its independence. Similarly any human being, which is attacked by the disease becomes a patient and looses its independence completely. The cat plays with the rat for sometime like this and finally swallowes the rat. Similarly, the human being is swallowed by the Lord at the end. The whole creation itself is like a rat for the cat like Lord, which is told in Brahmasutra “Atta Charaachara Grahanaat”.

Thus the short span of independence of human beings under the supervision of the overall controlling Lord, creates the full game and entertainment for the Lord. The entertainment is the basic reason of the creation by the Lord as said in Veda (Ekaaki Na Ramate) and as said in Brahmasutra (Lokavattu). Within the limits of the supervision of the cat, the rat will receive the result of the direction in which it runs. In one direction there may be fire and the rat may receive the heat. In another direction there may be cold water and the rat will receive the coolness in that direction. The rat is independent to receive the result of the direction and has full independence to go in any direction. The final death of the rat shows that the rat is under the control of the cat during its choice of direction also, which is not interfered by the cat. Similarly the human life is with full of independence but the final end proves that the independence is under the control of the Lord. Yet, since there was no interference of the Lord during the human life, the human being receives the results according to its actions. Thus the “whole game is perfectly justified in any angle”.

:

Hey guys.

Last February I visited Cyprus, I've travelled all from the northernmost tip to the south coast and I was truly fascinated by the country and its peoples. It was a wonderful experience and based on that I've decided to write a newspapers article about it.

I work for a Slovak nationwide newspapers and I'd love to depict Cyprus from the perspective of its inhabitants. I'm not so much into beaches, resorts and all the posh stuff. I'm more interested in the real Cypriots (both Greek and Turkish) and their lives.

Would any of you be willing to make an interview with me about it? I'd be asking about what's the life like in Cyprus, what's good and what is not great etc. Just easy stuff, no politics..

:

...the big picture
is our esteem at social exchange
when we cannot over come the fear, within ourselves
; a recognition, in that we demonstrate
the Principals of Bicommunality with
both: Rights as an Individual, and Rights as a Person
; politically: One State, and National Assemblies.
this is our commitment to Mankind,as Cypriots...

...to start; three governing bodies (others too if we are Patriots)
a Federal Republic where every elector votes once exactly the same way
and further more National Assemblies which are the Governance
of Territories Bizonally, they Administer, so that as a Community Peoples can sustain their Goodwill as a Majority recognising
the needs of the Minorities amongst them

ergo, please read my manifesto.

the big picture...
land, blood was spilled
for it.....
displaced persons deserve our Respect.

their return is an Act which discriminates our commitment against Injustice

what about enclaves; there's a deal...
like Jewels across the whole island, Grecophone and Turcophone scattered
across its map; whole communities returning,
even with the Green Line unchanged.

...many components to two (or more) parts: Bizonal

what do you think Sarah?

consider 200 (400) years, and the potential that 12 million are dwellers

( the big picture )
is Cyprus "Greek" or "Turk", no.
...if you love this island,

(the here and now )
there is an Ignorance which dismisses
this Wealth, a Heritance far greater along with all the Others
yet we have no shame to say none is older, us, Cypriots the People of Cyprus

( the crux )
and thus there are many from every World Religion, Race Creed and Colour, and
from every walk of life, from three Continents the Paths cross here.
this is part of the big picture too...

cheers!

...oh and did i mention, please read my manifesto, thanks.

UN satisfied with Cyprus accelerated talks

www.chinaview.cn 2010-01-13 03:48:39 Print

NICOSIA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The top UN envoy in Cyprus expressed on Tuesday his satisfaction with the intensified talks by Greek and Turkish Cypriot community leaders aimed at bridging differences in negotiations aimed at a solution to the Cyprus issue.

"We are happy with the way the two leaders are conducting the negotiations," said Alexander Downer, the United Nations Secretary-General's advisor on Cyprus.

He was talking to reporters after President Demetris Christofias, a Greek Cypriot, and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat concluded their second marathon meeting on Tuesday night.

They negotiated for a total of 15 hours in the past two days on the issue of governance and power sharing between the two communities.

They will have another session on Wednesday before recessing for more than one week, and embarking on another three-day round of intensive talks on January 25.

Downer said the two leaders had a long day of open and frank discussion on Tuesday.

Donwer's satisfaction echoed a statement by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon in New York last week that he is encouraged by the talks in Cyprus. Ban encouraged both leaders to remain committed and to show flexibility and leadership.

President Christofias said after Tuesday's session, which lasted about eight hours, that he had submitted a document on the positions of the Greek Cypriot side on the governance and power sharing issue.

He added that the document was a response to a similar document submitted by the Turkish Cypriot side last week, which was rejected by the Greek Cypriot political leadership as outside the scope of the agreed basis for a federal state solution.

Christofias said the two documents are not being discussed at his meetings with Talat.

"Because we have said we will not discuss the Turkish Cypriot document, it is not necessary to discuss the positions of our document either," said Christofias.

However, "we have the positions of the two sides in mind and we are discussing freely, having these positions in mind," he noted.

Meanwhile, a Turkish Cypriot spokesman said the document submitted by Talat will not be withdrawn just because the Greek Cypriot side said it is not acceptable as a basis of negotiations.

The talks between the two sides started 16 months ago but despite agreeing on several points there are still wide divergences on central issues which block the way to a solution to the long standing division of the eastern Mediterranean island since 1974.
Archbishop: we ignore dictatorship threats

Quote:

ARCHBISHOP Chrysostomos yesterday appeared defiant in the face of criticism over his political comments and actions.
Chrysostomos found himself under heavy fire on Wednesday over the purchase of 10,000 copies of a book written by former Central Bank Governor Christodoulos Christodoulou on the cost of a solution of the Cyprus problem, which were distributed through churches.
The Archbishop said he wanted people to be informed of the hardship awaiting them after a federal solution.
DISY lawmaker Christos Pourgourides accused the primate of squandering Church property and suggested the money be given to those in need instead.
Pourgourides said Church property should be put under the scrutiny of an independent elected body “to put an end to the arbitrary acts and abuse of Church finances.”
Chrysostomos said as a deputy Pourgourides can propose a change of the constitution.
“It is not the first time they did it. They can do it again and can also impose a dictatorship,” the Archbishop said.
He pointed out that through its long history the Church has survived many dictatorships, many atheist emperors, who put pressure on it.
But it survived because it is not a human structure but a divine creation, Chrysostomos said.
“That is why we ignore all those threats and if need be we will give all the Church property … for the salvation of the country,” he said. “Mr. Pourgourides cannot tell us we squander the Church property.”
Chrysostomos said the Church gave €1.5 million more than last year, despite the economic crisis, to the needy.
The author of the book said in reality his writings reveal in an “objective and substantiated manner” that both the Annan plan and the ongoing talks, which are based on the provisions of the said plan, lead to a dysfunctional and non-viable solution.
“They lead to a solution, that if accepted, we spell the destruction of the Cypriot economy,” Christodoulou said.
He said Pourgourides was insincere and acted with prejudice guided by his support of the Annan plan.
Christodoulou said his book had cost the Church two euros each “which does not even cover the cost of printing.”
“The people must be informed because it is about their history, survival and the future of their children,” Christodoulou said.

“The only comment I want to make is an expression of love for the Archbishop and the Church leadership and all the Cypriot people.”

Someone needed to remind Chrysostomos of the spirit of Christmas, which he treated with disdain in his poisonous political message. Whereas in most parts of the world Church leaders talk about hope, goodwill and Christian values, the Archbishop of Cyprus peddled political pessimism and distrust, in his ongoing attempts to block a settlement.

He implicitly cast doubts on the president’s patriotism and tried to stir public hostility towards the Turkish Cypriots, warning that a settlement would make Cyprus Turkish in 20 to 25 years.

Apart from playing the national leader he also assumed the role of prophet. He prophesied the imminent submission of a peace plan that would be worse than the Annan plan, and its possible acceptance would lead to many woes for the Greek Cypriots. We do not have an Archbishop in this country, but prophet of doom who instils fear in his flock and preaches hatred.

It is a peculiar way of spreading Christian values, but Chrysostomos has never been a very religious man. Perhaps this is why the content of his Church messages is political and he rarely deals with spiritual matters.

In a sense, it is just as well, considering his un-priest-like public behaviour over the years. He has a better chance of being listened to when he talks about politics than about the faith on which, despite his title, he is unfit to offer guidance.

This is why we have to accept that his Christmas, Easter and other religious day messages will be fanatical, political diatribes against a settlement. This is what he knows and believes, which is why we will have to put up with his political sermons for as long as he remains Archbishop.
