THE TURKISH military took a swipe at the Turkish Cypriot administration yesterday by barring media outlets sympathetic to the leadership from covering a search and rescue exercise off the northern coast.

The annual event is popular with the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot media, and is traditionally covered by all outlets regardless of political leanings.

Quote:
In January, Turkish Cypriot leader Talat clashed with Turkish military Chief of Staff Yasar Buyukanit over his plans to open a crossing between Greek and Turkish Cypriot controlled Nicosia. And in March, the head of Turkish forces in Cyprus, Hayri Kivrikoglu berated Turkish Cypriot ‘prime minister’ Ferdi Sabit Soyer for failing to adequately display his party’s “Turkishness” at a party conference.

Quote:
An angrier reaction came from the Turkish Cypriot Newspaper Journalist’s Union (KTGB) which issued a statement saying that for the military to decide which media outlets were tolerable was “completely unacceptable”.

“The army is sending a message to the world that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is completely under its control,” the statement added.

I spoke with my uncle last night and the Turkish Cypriot community is furious about this and he tells me there WILL be more problems and unrest as the North is starting to resemble an open prison controlled and run by the army and the people not having their democratically elected leaders listened too.

I am very angry about this. Twisted Evil

Yes all the Turkish Cypriot papers have written about it like 'kibris gazetesi' which is the biggest paper in the North and Turkish Cypriot readers views are also enclosed and the sentiments are not saying anything good about the turkish army, they are disgusted and very angry.

Action in Iraq, action in Cyprus...nothing like a little bit of war to distract the people...more importantly, what are Turks reading in their papers? How will they react in their upcoming elections?

They're furious today..tomorrow they'll forget. Unfortunately, Turkish Cypriots don't have a long term memory. Sorry but it's true.

Hey tell me something that I don't Know about the Turkish Military and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus! And who may I ask is the Turkish Military BIGGEST supporter?
Denktash who else!
cheers
PS Don't forget the way Turks treats the Turkish Cypriot is the same way Greeks treat the Greek Cypriot!
Like we are second grade donkeys! He Haw!
So ask yourselves this question!
Does Turkey and Greece support the Turkish Cypriot and the Greek Cypriot or do they really just want a piece of the island as there own play ground?
