New 'articles' section for the forum

A while back mete (I think) suggested that it could be useful to have a seperate section of the forum that people could submit 'articles' too. The idea was that there are some 'generic' topics that crop up over and over again and that often good stuff is written on these recurring themes by indivduals but that this gets lost in the general morass of ongoing discussion and new threads. So the idea was to have an area where people could write and submit 'articles' about specific issues where these articles would not be swamped in the general morass of forum posting and could be used as 'references' in the continued and ongoing discussion to avoid the repetition of them.

So as an _experiment_ (for now) I have added a 'mod' to the forum that allows for the submission and approval of user written 'articles'. For the moment I have things set so that any register user can submit an article, but these will not appear in the articles section until 'approved' by and administrator. I think we do need an 'approval' system for without it we run the risk that the articles section will itself end up 'swamped' with content. However clearly there is an issue of how and who should 'approve' or 'disallow' and article and this will need some discussion and input.

You can get an idea of how this 'articles' section works by selecting the 'articles' link in the menus found at the top of all forum pages.

The articles can be grouped and subgrouped into different areas (chapters) as necessary and this is also something we need to consider (what areas/chapters do we think are suitable).

To get things statred I have written a very rough draft article about my thoughts on 'democray'. I am submitting this purely to give others an idea as to what I think this 'articles' section of the forum could be used for. I wish to stress that actually this article is at best a DRAFT and not actually a finished item. I also wish to stress that we need to agree some way of deciding whihc articles should or should not get 'approval' to be added to the articles list. That I have put up my own article and approved is NOT an indication that this is how things will happen in the future. I am putting it up purely to give some intial content to the articles section whilst we discuss these issue. It is certainly NOT my idea that I alone decide whihc articles appear or not.

So basically all comments and input from members would be welcome.

Just to add another use for the articles section might be to create a 'chapter' for the finished product of the 'translation' project that moonskin statred up a while ago that was translating Ozker Ozgur into english ?

Yes, I think Mete made that suggestion. It was planned to serve as a place as well where members could lay down their views on certain issues in order not to have to repeat them in every thread. This is a very useful idea imo.

It also gives the possibility to better understand what a poster might be trying to say when one can sort of 'look up' that members general view on the issue...

Where is this new Articles section on the site? Can someone provide a link or guide me there as, forgive my incompetence, I can't find it...

There is a 'menu' option near the top of all forum pages with things like 'faq ,searc, memberlist etc'. Articles is the last in this list but in case you still cant find the link you can go straight there using this link
