Yes Bro, this is exactly what they are. In Paphos we have a variation, where mixed with the cheese filling we also put lamb's meat or pork. They are called baskia or embaskia. My mother told me an interesting story told by her grandfather, where a christian villager sent a baskia to the aga of Chrysochou and by mistake he sent him one with pork. The aga ate almost half of it until he realized that part of the filling was a pig,s ear!!Smile)
Apparently he loved the stuff and requested his wife to learn to make the baskia with pork...SmileSmileSmile

Then if that is the case i LOVE them, when i fancy one i go to a bakery in Barnet run by a couple of Greek Cypriot ladies and buy it from there, they make it the best unlike Yasar Halim who seems to have lost the plot when it comes to making them.

I remember when aroma first opened in 1998 and was this little shop and my wife was pregnant and whenever she would pass by the Greek Cypriot ladies would stop her for a chat and feed her loads and send her away with a bag full of stuff and never accepted any kind of payment ever, hence my daughter has not one birth mark/leke on her. Very Happy

Andro and Maria who own Aroma are friends of mine and you could not meet two nicer people, just don't go in there hungry you will come out with half the shop. They have opened their 3rd shop now in Stroud Green Road, well worth a visit.

Agreed, they are very nice ladies and even when i went to the shop and they learnt who my wife was ( i thanked them for the kindess they have shown her as mrs brother was new to the UK and had no friends) they would always send a seperate parcel to her from them and i hope they open another 100 shops, well done to them.

They truely display our real cypriotness through their kindness.
