Mate all the Cypriots in Melbourne are going crazy:
I like it when they have Greek flags waving: Don't they know he is NOT GREEK or do the Greeks claim everyone they think is Greek?Cat Stevens & George Micheal's too!
Philapousis is the Greek!
Markos is the Cypriots! |

You should ask the one who misspelled his name above.
His name is Pagdatis with a P and not with a B! |

I was kinda wondering the same thing. Thanks for the clarification.
Kifeas, perhaps you can clear something else up for me. Does the name Karamanlis have a meaning? Because in Turkish, Karaman was tribe of turks. |

Why are you suprised depurple? I also suppose it is the cypriots in the first place who waved those flags.
It was the night Greece won the European football championship, i wanted you to see southgate, london. More than 10000 cypriots having one of best days in their life waving greek flags. Get real! |

yes i was wondering this too.
were they related to the Pechenegs, Cumans, proto-Bulgars who were soldiers to the byzantine emperor? these people arrived in Anatolia long before the Oghuz Turks who were Muslim.
The Karamanlis were Greek Orthodox Christians but Turkish speaking, they wrote Turkish using the Greek alphabet.
There is debate as to whether they descended from the earlier Turkic tribes used by the Byzantine Emperor as his army or whether they were non-Turks, native Anatolians who became turkicized by the oghuz but not islamicized. |

I assume that it comes from the turkish word Kara which means black and the greek word malli which means hair, otherwise Blackhaired! |

Kifeas,
The reason I ask is because I was wondering about the origin of Konstantinos Karamanlis, the Greek PM. Could he have Turkish origins? |
