Finally,

Even Sener Levent is waking up from the long lasting sleep that kept him and all the other Communist Cypriots putting the majority of blame on us Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots instead of so called imperialists.

It is common trait in Cyprus to blame others for our failings. It is always the bloody UK, USA, Turkey, Greece. If they did not exist we would be living together in peace. To that I say the biggest “BS”.

I always say the only difference between nationalists and communist in this island is that nationalists blame everybody (including the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots) for their problems but communist blame everybody but not including Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. None of them is good for this island since none of them opens the doors for quilt to walk through and puts the carpet on the floor for compromise to come to us.

----
Prisoners of walls

The expressions that starts as “Imperialists divided us. We were tricked by the Brits and Americans” is not enough to clean our faults.

In order not to see our faults, how long we are going to use the above rhetoric?

Once upon a time, I myself got caught up in this wave.

I told it to everyone that asked.

I told them if imperialists did not intervene we would not be fighting.

But even back then, there was no need for imperialists for Greek Cypriots to try to convince me to Enosis, in a place like Moscow which had became the castle of socialism and Mecca of communism.

There was no imperialist agents around us.

All of us had a background in socialist education background and all of us were feeding from the socialism.

We were reading Marx, Engels, and Lenin, and memorizing the poems of Mayakovski and were building our conscious with Gorki’s “Mother”

My Greek Cypriot friends were consoling me with “ We will have a union with socialist Greece. In socialism there is no minority or majority. All of us are going to be equal”

In response to this I would tell them “What if socialist revolution takes place in Turkey before Greece? What do you say having a union with Turkey? “ and got a response that never caught me with surprise as “No. That can’t be. Cyprus is a Greek island and should have a union with Greece’

How can imperialism have caused this thought?

Was it possible for those who feeds with Marxism to be tricked by the English and American imperialists?

And these young communists who are advocating “socialist enosis” was not even aware of what Akel’s then leader Ezekias Papayuannu were saying.

What was Papayuannu saying?

“Those who say we want to have a union with socialst Greece is getting it wrong. We want to have a union with whatever Greece there is.

***

At one side English-American tricks, at the other side the chauvinists among us, and at the other side our stupidity had brought Cyprus into today’s shape.

We can not cover our faults by only blaming imperialists.

Is it English and American tricks that we can not put our Cypriotness in front of our Turkishness or Greekness?

Is it English and American tricks that we can not make advancements in Turk-Greek marriages on the island?

Is it English and American tricks that stopped us from taking those war criminals walking among us freely, boasting how many Turk or Greek they had killed, to courts and punishing them? Isn’t this our fault?

Which imperialist product is the mentality of those that sees Turkish Cypriots as a minority and hence does not accept them as a political equal?

Our situation sounds like blaming outside forces for smoking cigarette.
We are only deceiving ourselves.

In order not to tell our faults to each other, in order to sound peaceful, we relate everything to outside forces.

Those who hang Turkish or Greek flags to their homes, are theme hanging those flags because they are tricked by imperialists.

Those who does not approve their daughters getting married by the Greek or Turkish boy, are those tricked by the imperialist as well.

Is this also the result of Turkish military intervention or Annan Plan faults?

***

The walls that are erected between us is negligible when compared to the walls that we have erected in our brains.

In order to be able to break the walls between us we have to be able to break the walls in our brains first.

Those walls are very thick.

We have out ourselves in this dungeon with our own will.

Is it imperialism fault that, In a mixed election if a Greek Cypriot is not voting for a Turkish Cypriot simply because he/she is a Turkish Cypriot.

If we had managed to break that wall, would we be talking about the partition right now?

Even invasion is not enough for those who had imprisoned themselves to their own walls.

i agree with this to a great extent.

i believe that neither in cyprus nor enywhere else in the world , has the left, even understood the power of nationalism, and even worse, it has never been able to get rid of its own nationalism. the same is for cyprus, where we are currently both ruled by our "left" and still they are not able to follow simple internationalists ideas and solve the problem. hristofias and talat swear at each other the same way, denktash and kyprianou did.

i also agree with the idea of the foreign influence. in the past, i agree that the divide and rule was used against us. but in the past, we were illiterate, in the past we didnot have a clue about politics. now, we know that it is others that made us fight. now we know that it is in the interest of ohters to keep us divided - but still, we keep accusing each other. it makes you wonder if we actually learned from the past... but still, even they are only few, romantics, dreamers , -whatever you want to call them - i believe it is the only chance we have.

Thanks, turkcyp for translating this. I've read the article in Turkish and I was thinking of translating it myself but had no time. You're right that Sener Levent recently started to shift the blame to the right place, that is Cypriots. I hope ordinary Cypriots also realize that we're in this mess today mainly because of ourselves. We didn't care for the other community when we were supposed to do. We didn't stop nationalists to hijack our country. We kept silent for injustice done.

Boys you are right and you are all wrong:
Some one is to blame YES BUT NOT the Cypriots:
Blame yourselves: When I say blame yourselves i say blame the Greek so called Cypriots and the Turkish so called Cypriots:
IF we all called ourselves proud Cypriots we would of been one equal common race:
BUT NO!!!! We could not do this:
we had to say Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot: Proud heritage: We are Turkish Yes we are Greek: Be proud you are Turkish Be proud you are Greek:
OUR mother Greece NO our mother Turkey: SO boys you all ruined Cyprus and divided it by NOT letting go of this madness:
OK Blame me:
I am Cypriot: I don't give a shit about Turkey OR Greece:
I do not want any thing to do with both those foreign countries:
Yes I speak Greek BUT and NOT Greek:
My grandfathers mother was Turkish but I am not:
Mt father is what you all call Greek Cypriot but we consider ourselves Cypriots:
I can live work and drink and associate anytime with any T?C & G?C with out any hang ups:
So do not blame the Cypriots:
Blame the Turkish>>>>>>>>>Cypriot
Blame the Greek>>>>>>>>>>Cypriot
BUT LEAVE the poor Cypriots alone:
You guys divided Cyprus now live with that fact:
I bet all of you so called mixed up people have the Turkish OR Greek Flag Flying high above your house:
Please look at it today and Blame that Flag as well:
BECAUSE IF everyone on Cyprus had ONE Flag there would only be one Cyprus:
So therefore my dividing friend blame the Turkish and Greek Flags as well:
AS for Sener Levant I want him as the next President of Cyprus:
NO Not for the Turkish Cypriot OR the Greek Cypriot BUT for the true Cypriots:
cheers:
