I was once talking to a friend (yalanci tevfik) the other day and I asked him why he stood me up a few days earlier,
ME: "Be tevfik dayi, ma necin gelmeding gahveye da yarak gibi bekletding beni. soz verding ki geleceyiding, insan sozunde durmazmi be hayvan?"
(Tevfik, why the hell did you tell me to meet you t the cafe if you weren't goig to turn up, does a man not keep his word?)
TEVFIK: "Dashak Ali Dayi soz verdim, ne zaman soz verdim?!."
(Poppycock! when did I say that!)
****Dashak Ali Dayi literaly means 'testicle uncle Ali'
I was so intigued that I decided to see how many different ways this unique Cypriotturkish expression can be used in everyday speech.
Please provide as many examples as you can of how 'Dashak Ali Dayi' can be used in everyday conversation. I heard it is quite interchangeable.

Bullika..if I had a pound for every time I heard my Father say this I would be on a yacht in St Tropez by now...!
He uses it when he is exasperated with someone who has promised him something and it has failed to materialise.. So he will say "I asked so and so for something and did it happen? D..Ali..D!" (in other words..did it happen..like hell it did!) Actually, he says Yarak Ali Dayi but varies them for some reason! |

| It should be a Cypriot national motto, like the French Liberte, Egalite Fraternite. |
