welcome sarah,

i hope you will join us with your active participation too.

do check out our archives, which include a rich debate on many topics that may well be of interest to you.

...perhaps you will consider my manifesto as food for thought, as Cyprus needs more than anything new thinking to get beyond the impasse the Problem has become.

cheers!

...and the very best luck.

Many thanks for your welcome. Where can I find your manifesto? Heaven knows some new thoughts on this thorny problem of ours would be refreshing.

Thanks repulsewarrior, I read your manifesto, and since we inherit the full weight of historical events which led to the current separation, it's good to see that people feel they can express their opinions in this forum.

The more ideas that come along the better, we all have the democratic right to express our opinions. The question is: how do the current entrenched views change? Usually new ideas or approaches are perceived as a threat to the old order.

i will try to explain the basis of my views...

firstly i base my argument on the small population of Cyprus. i assume as well that the demographics will change greatly, and that in two hundred years the population of 12 million is foreseeable.

i base my Principals on the ideals of Fraternity, Equality, and on the Right to Freedom of Movement

i base my commitment to the Individual and to the charachter of the Community from which we can identify People as Persons: Bicommunality.

i believe in the Principal of One Man One Vote. this Universal Property of Democracies is inviolate. in any government the People elect their Representatives who serve each and everyone of them as equals.

i believe that the redistribution of land is essential, and i believe Cypriots need to demonstrate Humility as well as Grace reciprocally. Enclaves, so much of our History, serve this interest well, with the restablishment of Turcophonic villages in the south, while Grecophones, to some extent, will return as well, as communities in the north. even if the "Green Line" remains little unchanged, demilitarised of course, it will become another frontier, of many which represent one of many Jurisdictions (two, or more than two) within a State: Bizonality.

I believe in one indivisable State which defends all its Citizens to the very best of its ability. I believe that National Assemblies can exist as well.

I believe that religion can Unite us, if their is One God.

Cypriots need education, and because of the small population they have the ability to exchange in a manner quite unique. It is possible to better inform this population sothat everyone decides based on the same information. This debate must go further than "Turkish" interests and "Greek" interest. It must represent Cypriots, the island dwellers must look forward, to fashion something better than the Political models which themselves must adapt to a very mobile world. this i think is the most important point.

This manifesto is a step toward a "virgin birth" if you will, without the interlocutors, it is a Cypriot act to demonstrate our commitment toward the Stewardship of a Heritance on which the rest of Mankind can rely. It will require a level of Government equal to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as well as a State.

In my Cyprus we can sustain an ability to communicate in a multitude of languages, more than three. In my Cyprus we welcome diversity as the Gateway to Europe from two other Continents. In my Cyprus we share as Humans a compassion for the beauty of this land with acts of Love for it.

... (at the Federal level) voting thricely is a key.

Demographically the island's population is changing, there was a recent report from the statistical service in the Republic of Cyprus (Republic of Cyprus) showing that there was a 1% increase in population, and around 0.5% of the increase was due to foreigners from the EU moving to the island.

The winds of change are blowing: http://www.cyprusnewsreport.com/?q=node/317

I hope our country can ride the winds to a peaceful place...

...just one percent, extrapolate; equals the doubling of the population in about forty years...

...consider an end to the plagues of Africa, (or with Global Warming its desertification)

...consider peace, in the middle east, and in our own country; a greater freedom of movement.

we have, as Cypriots, gigantic considerations futuristicly to think about...
