Does anyone know the name or artist of this amateur arrangement ?

http://www.esnips.com/doc/ab90d1ab-7cfa-4543-8db9-08e1a2a42a9c/Askerlik

I know this song was politically very sensitive as it is makes a statement against compulsary military service and it was censored to my understanding when I was in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1998...Can anyone verify if it still is censored ?

Compulsary military service is common in most European countries, NOT JUST Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

I will attempt to translate the song...I'm sure I will screw it up Shocked

Im sure this song will well serve the pro unification "Cypriots'' out there...

Lyrics - Unknown Song

I'm scared mother,
Take me within you.

I couldn't fight mother,
Take me within you again.

I am now grown mother,
Problems have grown too.

(Couldn't figure out the next to lines)

They've called me up for my service,
they said the war has begun.

They're giving me guns Mother,
telling me to kill.

"Lay down" they tell me,
"Get up" they tell me.

They're doing my head in Mother,
They're doing my head in.

Turn the TV off Mother,
They are fooling you too.

Turn the TV off mother,
They are fooling you too.

Guitar Solo...

They've called me up for my service,
they said the war has begun.

They're giving me guns Mother,
telling me to kill.

"Lay down" they tell me,
"Get up" they tell me.

They're doing my head in Mother,
They're doing my head in.

Turn the TV off Mother,
They are fooling you too.

Turn the TV off Mother,
They are fooling you too.

Don't give your vote Mother,
Don't give your vote Mother,
Don't give your vote Mother.

Guitar Solo...

I know this song and I had no idea it was censored, are you sure? I think I've heard it a few times on the radio.

I'm not the best person to ask as I don't live in Cyprus but I don't think it's censored right now. Are you planning to perform it in Cyprus? Smile

Unfortunately we live in a World where we must do our military service for our country. This song just brings out the human face of having to go to war. Let's hope we never have to ever go to war again.

This song was performed by my cousin and I when I was in Kibris in 1998.

It was the first time I had ever picked up a guitar. He taught me how to play 3 chords Laughing

Maybe I have remembered wrong and it wasn't censored. Either way, it was a memorable moment for me.

I think an English version could make a big hit in the US, especially with their War on Iraq Confused

So senseless...

I don't know. Believe it or not, Americans don't give much crap about what goes on in Iraq and they're not into sad and slow songs like this one but it might be popular in the hands of a powerful singer, who knows...
