i just watched this german movie in the cinema.

i would guess the translation would be "the life of the others" - but you never know with films.

in short it is amazing.
a real shocking movie.
i would recomment it to everyone.

its about the east german secret police.

haven't seen it, but here some more info http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094/ , includes a long review as well

I must admit I'm not very keen on movies about recent east german history.
Somehow its touching me too much I guess. Sad

Obtained via bittorrent. Agreed - it is a masterpiece.

Die Untergang was also outstanding; is there something in the water over there? Wink

it is a touching moovie. after the movie was over there was this absolute silence in the cinema. the east german fellow student who was sitting next to me...i would bet that he almost cried.

I have read about the STASI during my course, apparently they had something like 1/3 of the population spying on each other. They racked up millions of files worth of information on their citizens. They opened up their archives some years ago for people to see their own files, and found that their best friends, associates, girlfriends etc had been spying on them!

p.s. bittorrent is a download program.
