Actually the PS3 has been rated as disappointing. In fact, comparing it to the xbox360 using their only common game, Call of Duty 3, xbox 360 is clearly the winner
I was considering buying it for myself (not for wife-nephew-friend  ) but after reading so many negative reviews I changed my mind |

From what i've heard it WILL be able to play blue-ray disks, another good reason why its worth getting a PS3.

HELLOOOOOO? Only common game??? Never heard of Pro Evoloution Soccer 6!? Pah!...I bet you play FIFA instead.
and even though I was dissapointed with PES6, with it not changing all that much from the last one, many people say the PS2 version is better than the XBox360 version. |

Thanks for all of the advice guys  I'll still go for the Xbox360 and leave the PS3 for next year..no doubt Mr L will want it anyway so he can buy that himself!
Is there a game review section on this site? It would be good to share opinions... |

Have a look at www.gamespot.com and www.ign.com - good for everything to do with gaming.
Also, ign said the xbox360 version of Need for Speed and Call of Duty 3 actually looked better than the ps3's, so dont expect some miracle from the ps3. Most people are predicting it will not reach the same heights as the ps2, too much competition and too many problems. You can also buy a HD-DVD add on for the xbox360 soon if you want to upgrade in the future. |

| but the blue-ray compatibilaty for the PSŁ will be worth the money alone. Blue-Ray players gonna cost silly money when they come out. |

uhm.. no... it's out, just not in Europe
Quick comparison. COD3 for the 360 runs at 60 fps, COD3 for the PS3 runs at 30 fps and drops even lower frequently

It DOES. But the 360 can play HDDVDs, which is a competing and as likely to win as the Bluray format. You need an add-on drive however

HELLOOOOOO! PES6 is not out for the ps3 yet!
Don't bet on anything, I bet I could easily beat you on a PES match
As for the HDDVD add-on, many people think it's better that there's a separate drive for movie-playing, since playing movies wears out the mechanics and drops the game loading times as it did for ps2 |

oops, noticed you already got it.
if you really want to make him happy, get him 'gears of war', its this christmas's must have game for the 360. also elder scrolls 4 is very good. |
