Sevda is indeed Turkish meaning "Love",the romantic kind...
Sevdali is "the one in Love".
Sevdalik is not used in Turkish,in this sense.Probably a Greek variation of Sevdalilar (plural of Sevdali)...  |

from my limmited knowledge of turkish i understand that the "lik" is used in a "no-strict-rule" way. it can represent all kinds of endings such as -hood, -ism, -ness, etc and it can even create totally new words.
so i can assume that the greeks might have overtaken that , and abbused it a bit
i can imagine that sevdalik might mean sth of the kind : the proccess or the situation of being in love.
the knowledge of a linguist could be helpful here... |

Now there is another problem word "andir".
What does that mean?
"Andiri" means note or memo..."Andirmak" means to resemble...But "andir" does not exist in standard Turkish.
This poem was written by someone who speaks some kind of Turkish dialect.Notice how they use "guzelum" for guzelim,"sardu" for sardi,and "yanimuz" for yanimiz...
Where did you find it?It is so intriguing because I know every word except those two,and can't still work out their meaning...Hmmmmm  |

The word andirmak in my dictionary means =to bring to mind.
I am assuming the dialect is karadenizli as it says in the poem.
I found the poem by care of Google. You know I am finding these search engines more and more fascinating. I typed in the word Sevdalik and it took me to places where it is so easy to get distracted from what you are looking for because so many exiting other things are listed in your search. It seems to be working more and more like a brain and just one word can lead you into a train of thought that you had no intention of following. I wonder if Google has dreams and nightmares? |

yes,it seems like Lazspeak,Zan...Dialect of Pontians from the
Black Sea. I see what you mean by googling "sevdalik"...
I am inclined to think it is used to mean "hasret" or yearning/longing...
I found "sevdalik cekmek" somewhere.Which points in that direction.
Of course if you use it like "bir sevdalik omrum olsa...yine seni severdim"
it would mean "if I had room only for one love...I'd still choose you".

| Discovered him a about a year ago through my sister in-law when she came back from Canada. The "Gravity" album is fantastic. This man is a genius on the guitar and a late night session on the ear phones shows you the quality of his playing. This album has a Mediterranean come Asian feel about it. My favorite track is "Closer to madness". |

I know that Bruv, I think in English terms and sometimes confuse people. We don't always say the full goodnight but just "night"!!!!! I don't know if the expression marks helped either..........sorry. Bloody English boy I am............... |
