i think that in any situation between football teams/fans, in cyprus or in any country, a lack of police presence would lead into a riot. Why do you guys constantly take any excuse to make something out of nothing?!(especially since nothing happened)
your all so depressing! |

Fans injured
POLICE yesterday announced that four people were injured yesterday during Thursday night’s tense football clash between APOEL and Trabzonspor of Turkey in the UEFA Cup in Nicosia. All four people, two Greek Cypriots aged 20 and 23 and two Turkish Cypriots aged 27 and 32, were treated for minor injuries by stadium doctors after rivals fans began hurling objects at each other during the game.

Thats kind of tragic, as it shows how naive they are. A lot of omonia fans went and activley supported apoel against the 'enemy' as a show of national unity. |

Seems that football violence is there regardless of what country the team comes from:

very sad, and i hope that police efforts to halt this kind of behaviour works.

New season, same old crowd trouble
By John Leonidou
THERE was trouble on the opening day of the Cypriot football season as rival supporters of Nicosia clubs APOEL and Omonia clashed at the GSP Stadium.
Cypriot football is no stranger to football violence, despite efforts by police and Cyprus Football Association (CFA) officials to stamp out the problem, which has plagued the game on the island for the past 25 years.
The opening weekend of the season on Sunday was no different, as two people were arrested and 10 people injured during violent scenes in the big game between APOEL and Omonia, which ended 2-1 to APOEL.
Trouble had already begun long before the game was set to kick off at 8pm on Sunday.
At around 6pm, and as the APOEL bus approached the stadium, four or five people were seen pelting stones at the bus, causing around £600 worth of damage to the vehicle.
No players or club officials were injured in the attack and police are still looking for the culprits. |

have you ever seen the Hooligan's in Turkey?
More like 2 Army's on a battlefield.
Sorry but the Cyprus hooligans are not really that Bad. You should go and watch a maych in london between Tottenham , Chelsea , West Ham , Arsenal , Or even some of the Lower league Teams like Sheffield Utd & Wednsday or Leeds United etc etc . The North South Divide here is Allways very Explosive and i have witnessed it many Times.
At the Old Highbury ( Arsenal Home Ground ) most Teams who had a Hooligan Following would Invade the North Bank and It would be close to Riots. Now days the Hooligans are more Organised with the Technology available i.e Mobile Phones , Internet.
In the 80's i was at a cup game between Spurs and Man Utd and the high road was like a scene out of WW2, Culminating in an innocent fan being Stabbed to death on the Tube at Seven Sisters. |

Anyone notice the lack of coverage on the Apoel match last night ? and how muted the Greek Cypriot Press is after their Defeat.
If Apoel had knocked out Trabzon there would have been a public holiday like last year.
How thing's change in 12 months.
The Apoel players wont enjoy the flight back home |

Apparently Greece also beat Turkey in the basketball world cup. It is getting as much attention as the APOEL match.
I didn't hear of the result until today in the office. And that simply out of curiosity. |
