not a clue ...it could be anything.

i think it must be a name she was called as a child, and it has stuck...

my yiayias sister was called loulou as a child...and she is still known to everyone as yiayia loulou ...i think her real name is maria, but im not sure.

City now that we have gone to name because original I was talking about the funny Cypriot Nick names like:
Spanos: He had NO Hair!
But now we can concentrate on person names as well:
The Cypriot always abbreviate them:
Akis = Alexandros
Takis + Christakis
Koko = Giorgos?
Evi = Paraskevi
Popi = Kaliopi
There must be more of these shorten names:

Also can anyone tell me why ABBREVIATION is such a big word?
cheers

dp, I know these shortened versions and as long as I can see where they derive from no problem. But in the sample I gave I see no correlation whatsoever Sad

and yes, Kokos=Giorgos Smile

yeah well my husband and his group of friends answer to nick names rather than real names, but its confusing cause if they actually refer to eachother with real names I havn't a clue who they are talking about Smile

The groups nick names as follows:
Shi Shi - has nothing to do with shish kebabs
Koupas - has nothing to do with bowls
Kapsas - have no idea!!
Scoubapro - something to do with diving
Penguin - I know that george gets really pissed when they call him that lol

There are a few more but I think you get the idea Smile

This Greek bloke asked me once:
Why do all you Cypriots call each other Koumbaros:
Are you all Koumbaros with each other?
Koumbaros tou Koumbara mia fora tin Evthomatha!

I replied:
Why do all you Greeks call each other Malakes?
Are you all Malakes????

One funny name was guy in the village called Visoui
because he was breast feed from his mother for 7 years or something!
Another common name one is Bambis! I think it is short for haralambos?
I also remember they use to fight over names:
this couple fought over their father names:
She wanted her father:Louka and the husband want his father name Nicos so in the end they called the child LOUKANIKO: (Sausage):

em... are you sure that is the exact transliteration?

Kondo means short ( in height )
shilo means dog?

doesnt sound right though somehow

I could be wrong and it might mean something else, or you are typing it slightly wrong.

I think that might mean something rude, the way you have spelt it is very near to 'bullik' which means 'dick' and said in the above way could mean 'the dick' , because there is no other turkish word i can think of that could come close to it.

You may be right, my mum used to say it had something to do with my lips.

Maybe it is Kondosilo, could be the spelling Wink
