It seems that the Cyprob is too important to overcome even for humanitarian reasons. In the north we have at least two airports that are being under utilised
In this "civilised" day and age the question must remain WHY? |
it seems so indeed.

An Austrian military airplane bound for Larnaca to pick up evacuees from Lebanon was not allowed into Turkish airspace and was obliged to follow a longer flight plan, an Austrian newspaper reported yesterday.
The Kronen Zeitung described the move as a "new, scandalous behaviour of the EU candidate country". It reported the story under the headline "Turkey obstructs rescue flight – It closed its airspace to an aircraft of the federal army."
The paper quoted EU diplomatic sources as saying Turkey’s refusal to allow the flight was directly linked to EU policy towards Cyprus.
"According to Ankara’s policy, flights from and to Cyprus are not allowed through Turkey’s airspace. Apparently this also applies to humanitarian operations, as was Monday’s rescue of refugees from the war zone," the Austrian newspaper said.
It said that Austria’s military attachE in Ankara asked the Turkish government to allow a Hercules transport airplane to fly over its airspace, stressing that the flight was intended to transport refugees who had left the conflict in Lebanon and travelled by ship to Cyprus.
The Turkish government rejected the request on Monday, and a second similar request on Tuesday. The Hercules was obliged to follow a longer route home.

The only flights to/from Cyprus that aren't allowed over Turkey are by those airlines owned by Cypriot companies, i.e. Cyprus Airways, Eurocypria, Helios. I've flown over Turkey a number of times on BA. |

The comment was a Sarcastic one , sorry i should have made it a bit more clear
NO my friend i was not implying that at all and the embarrased faces were aimed at the TPAP gov for trying to demand money from the people to leave cyprus onboard charterd flight's...... |
100%cypriot where did you read/hear this? I'm just interested in the source or the full article for that matter as I do not believe they demanded money from the people. Maybe from their home countries to pay the expenses of the flights or similar... |

| Funny about the similarities between what Israel is doing to the Lebanese by making them refugess and what their strong political allies, Turkey, did to the Greek Cypriots in 1974. |

I can tell you that I heard the same stories on SHOW TV (via Sattelite). I also heard /saw a part of the speech that Erdogan made to the Turkish Cypriot during his visit. The synopsis is that Turkey, in no uncertain terms, will never abondon the Turkish Cypriot cause and that we will be patient. Moreover, he said that history will never forgive the ones responsible for the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots.

Your all full of BS.
Whats it like being a part of such a large cult??? |

I find you arguing about the Cyprus problem within a discussion about people in Lebanon who are currently destitute and facing genocide incredibly distasteful. I hope you will reflect on that. Jesus... |
