The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will start using a ADSL by the last quarter of 2006, the first area's to get this service will be Lefkos¸a, Tas¸k?nköy, Gönyeli, Gazimag<breve>usa, Maras¸, Yeniiskele, Girne, Karaog<breve>lanog<breve>lu, Lapta, Kars¸?yaka, Çatalköy, Güzelyurt, Dog<breve>anc? and Lefke.

This is excellent news and makes it a more attractive to the many like myself who will be moving there in the future.

Article here but it is in Turkish

Does anyone know the latest about what connectivity is currently available? I found a company that provides wireless ADSL (a pay as you go type service) but I don't know what sort of coverage there is at the moment (the company haven't got back to me yet). Does anyone know if there is wireless ADSL around the Karaoglanoglu area? Failing that, is there anywhere in Kyrenia that has the sort of set-up that would enable me to go along with a laptop and connect up?

Well, I am also trying to follow as close as possible what the situation of ADSL is. I think it is safe to assume that ADSL via cable is not going to be available before the end of the year.

I did a little investigation about those wireless ADSL providing companies but I ended up being frustrated by the huge prices they ask for and not-so-impressive-speeds either! After my current connection in Germany (2Mbits bandwith 9,95 Euro per month without any quotas), the idea of using internet in North Cyprus dreads me, really!

I decided to get a modem connection ( Rolling Eyes ) until the time ADSL arrives rather than paying that amount of money. The company I have really good opinions about is Analiz Net: www.analiz.net.

PS: I'm also in Ayorgi Smile

Thanks Moonskin Smile I looked up some of the ADSL prices and you're right, they are ridculous. So do they have wireless coverage in Ayorgi then? My "buyuk praplem" is that I need to be able to work while I am out there and ideally hook up to a wireless connection from home (S Bolgesi, K/Oglu) to also connect up a VOIP phone as well. I know I am expecting too much but even if the connection is slightly slower than what we are used to in the UK, it's better than nothing for me!

Any additional "adwice" would be gratefully received! Very Happy

I do not know if you've been to the following page yet, but it seems to offer what you want:

http://www.ayza.net/coverage.php

And this is a nice list of all ISPs:

Thanks again Moonskin Smile I am going to have a proper look now, in the meantime I also came across this company that supposedly provides a pay as you go type wireless connection:

Let us know of your findings Leyla. I'll surely need them in a month or so.

I will do..I have contacted Ayza for more information and will find out more about the pay as you go type service as that is a much better option for me.. I'll be in touch when I find out more..

If you are stuck for immediate access to the UK try Terry Thomas at Sunnycyprus. I am sure he will let you use his facilities in his office. 1st Floor Vakiflar Carsisi Girne Next to Colony Hotel. Or if Erol is in town he may let you use his set up.

Thanks so much SP, that is very kind of you. If we can find somewhere close to a WIFI hot spot that would be ideal as we need to work during the day (and be on-line) and connect a VOIP phone which is why in an ideal situation I would like to be able to work from home in Karaoglanoglu..

Sorry must have missed this thread.

I only came back here to mention a rumour I heared revently that the ADSL plans for north Cyprus have been scrapped for the time being as the original price of the infrastructure kit has suffered from the fall in the YTL thus making the project more expensive than planned Sad

Re the wifi operators I know the people running ayza (now called extend) and I know Terry Thomas quite well. There are a cou[ple of other wifi based services as well. Generally they do not offer hotsopt type services as found in UK and elsewhere but tend to concentrate on permanent users. Some of them are offering wifi type services but only in a very limited way as I understand it and in very limited areas.

In reality your best option may be to just goto your nearest internet cafe and ask to plug your laptop into their network. Most will have no prob with this. Or you can always pop over to my house and plug into my network if u prefer Wink - its cheaper (free) and I might even make you a cup of tea as well.
