the best avgolemono I ever tasted was in Cyprus on the way home (drunk) from a bar.....with toast!
We make it all the time when we're ill, hungover, or just fancy some comfort - careful with the egg or it curdles...
Do I get my honorary Cypriot badge now? Still practising my pourgouri though...  |

I Love augolomoni or augolomono (Which I think is what it's called in Greece) soup!! It's Always great when your feeling down and you need a pick up!!!   |

Yeah my wife makes it at least 4 or 5 times a week in the winter |

I really fancy some now, even though it's so hot....
Hopefully it'll get a bit cooler and I can get my mum to make me some, because I obviously can't
Actually the past two times I've made some, it actually tasted pretty good, although I'm not going to tell my Mum that, she's a genius when it comes to augolemoni, I don't want to give her an excuse to stop making it!!

My wife told me that in Greece they put meatballs in it as well |

Eeeewww that's just wrong!! No offense to anyone who's from Greece, but Cypriot food is slightly better in my opinion (not that I'm biased or anything! ), even though it is really similar, I think it's because the dishes are cooked in a more simple way...My cousin went to Greece last year, and even though she said it was really beautiful, she said she couldn't wait to get back to Cyprus so she could have some, as she put it 'good food'!! (Although that could have been because the restaurants she went to weren't particularly great.... ) |

It's not meatballs, it's mince-meat mixed with rice, soaked bread and spices shaped up as larger-than-meatball spheres that boil with the water before adding the avgolemono ingredients. It's called "Yiouvarlakia" and it's DE LI CI OUS, trust me on that! |

I, on the other hand, find Greek food better than Cypriot, "peri orekseos kolokythopitta" . For example, I just can't stand your devotion to kanella, you just have to add it to everything! And pork mince-meat? PLEASE! No one uses pork mince here, it's exclusively veal! how about souvlaki WITHOUT tzatziki? That my friend is NOT souvlaki, you should find another name for it! And pork gyros is nowhere to be found in Cyprus, that just SUCKS! |

That's meat-with-salad-and-lemon-in-a-pita, it's NOT souvlaki! You may (rightfully) find it delicious, but please give it another name, it's misleading to the poor Athenian (me) who ignorantly asks for a souvlaki and gets that gigantic and really heavy to carry sandwitch! No comments on the lack of gyros? |
