Further to a discussion CTD and I had at the wine festival.... unless you live in a mile radius of Palmers Green/Southgate in the UK...
Why can't you buy Keo beer in trendy bars and in off-licences - the way you can buy San Miguel or Peroni or Sol or all the others?
Or Thisbe or Othelo et al in amongst the Valpollicella or Frascati or Matheus?
Why can't you by a medrio at Starbucks?
Why can't you find hallumin in amongs the edams and the gorgonzolas etc. in the Deli stands of supermarkets?
Why aren't Cypriot gubes and flaunes sold in bakeries the way cornish pasties/French sticks are?
When will Cypriot food and drink go mainstream?! |

We have Halloumi in some of the supermarket chains here in Germany! From Christis and from Halloumi-Land  |

Have you heard of "the real greek" or "as greek as it gets?"
They are quite trendy restaurants in london....there's one near me in earls court and putney.....and there is also one in southbank.
Not "cypriot" food but greek as you can tell from the name and since its all trendy, unfortunately the food isnt that great and its greek souvlaki and not the cypriot one in the humungous pitta.
But it is trendy and you can get keo there. The one in Southbank (the real greek) is really nice-it's very popular amongst non greek/cypriots- and there are even young cypriot waiters to go with the trendiness of it all  heh |

OK, but you expect to get Keo in these places - but what about trendy bars in Soho? Hallumin is perhaps the one product that is available in more mainstream outlets and it's good that Germany's also enjoying it.
But the point remains. Like Spain, Italy, etc. (and I know they're much bigger countries) Cyprus enjoys a huge holiday market esp. from the UK. They come for the sun and sea for sure, but they do love the food and wine too! Cyprus needs to get with the programme when it comes to marketing and distributing its products abroad..... |

By coincidence I was in Marks & Spencer today and noted a whole cabinet full of "Mediterranean-style" food which I hadn't seen before.
Being M&S there were such offerings as a tray of meze so small you could put it in your eye for £164.99, but at least the idea has taken root |

Oo the M&S keftedes arent that bad!
THe thing is....well the quality of English tourism really. Without trying to sound rude, but many of the British tourists arent the adventurous types. How many times have you seen them eating hamburgers, fish and chips and spaghetti bolagnaise?!...i blame the restaurants as well for offering this! |

Yes M&S kiofdedhes are good - although the Greek style but the best is the Waitrose Mussakan (Mousaka) and their Magaronia du Furnu (or Pastitsio as they call it).
All washed down with a glass of..... French/Italian/Spanish/German wine! |

We live in SE London so have to go to the Turkish food centre for our greek food but it's not as nice (sorry!) The halloumi you get in supermarkets is horrible and soggy - ours gets sent over from Cyprus (homemade by fiance's yia yia!) Not sure what we'll do for halloumi when she isn't around - go to Green Lanes probably.....  |

yeh we go to the TFC too...they got some good stuff tho...like huge tubs of tarama!
but i was thinking of setting up a cypriot takeaway shop when im older....like they have them in cyprus. |

My father in law was trying to get my fiance to do this - can just see loads of builders coming in for their lunch "I'll have one of those gooooobez thingies please mate!"
I might go TFC now....fancy some koupes for dinner...plus they do really good pasta for macaroni (bit hot for that now though). |

I think my sis in law told me about that! They frequent Norf London far more often than me and fiance so we are left with M&S poor excuse for kopepkia....I just wait for mother in law to make them!
I think they used to get a lot of stuff from Demos....but that's another story  |

Probably when it becomes cheaper to buy . All the food's are so expensive. especially the one's that come from cyprus .
I got a butcher in kentish town to get me some Samarella from cyprus and i thought i was buying the whole goat by the prices i paid just for about a kilo.
Also the English do not like our cuisine as much as other countries food. |

Mmmm... I wonder why that is? I think it's because it's not as well known as other foreign cuisine, like for example, Italian, although how much pasta can you take before realizing that maybe a good souvla would be a better option!! |
