This is the section that people can go back to if they want to see what we have decided on for our solution.
Please, dont try to discuss the things in here, because that is what the other topics in this section are for!!!
This is more of a reference section for our final ideas.
Thanks

The Flag

Description:
After examining the views of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots I have found that there is a general consensus from both sides that any new flag for a united Cyprus should have neither any religious symbology nor any reference to the flags of Turkey or Greece.
The current Cyprus flag (Figure 1.1) seems to address all of these needs, however, despite it being designed by a Turkish Cypriot, due to the past associations with the flag it will not be acceptable to the Turkish Cypriot side to be used as a flag for the island. The Annan Plan 5 flag (Figure 1.2) contains the colours of Greece and Turkey (blue and red, even if they are different shades to the actual colours); and the plan as a whole was rejected by the Greek Cypriot community.
As such, my proposed flag (Figure 1.3) is based on the 1960 flag (Figure 1.1), but the orange and white have been inversed, representing a fresh start for Cyprus. From the flag suggested in the Annan Plan (Figure 1.2) the proposed flag inherits the three-colour layout, with orange, (representing copper), still at the centre of the flag. However, instead of strips of blue and red on either side of the centre, the proposed flag has two strips of white, so that neither is distinguished, representing unity and the similarities between the two communities. The traditional olive branches strengthen this message, resting at the bottom of the flag.

well eric (the famous) GOT ME THINKING, AGAIN.
this is my Finalised Idea:
Cyprus is an island, it is populated by people which can be called Cypriots.
I would like to add:
1. Bi-zonal does not mean an island divided in two.
2. Bi-communal means something other than two peoples isolated from each other.
I resolve, that the people will act to reform the Constitution so that it is sustainable on this basis: a State where we are represented as Cypriots, as well as two National Assemblies, which represent us as Greek Cypriots or as Turkish Cypriots, each having domain over a territory made up of parts. |
