hello again everyone,

We had a lovely time in the meet up despite the poor turn out (tut tut).
Instead of going to girne/kerinia we visited the closing ceremony of an art exhibition in the beautifully restored Buyuk Han in Nicosia where a Turkish Cypriot artist was presenting her work .
Her name is Ayhatun Atesin. She is an actress journalist and artist. Her work includes mostly or ceramic sculptures which seems to be her true passion.
The exhibition we attended, under the title "sessiz yuyuyus/silent walk" i felt, was a discrete yet powerful call to all Cypriot women. Ayhatun imagines women taking over politics because as she says "the pure makeup of women includes a heart and conscience that is more sensitive to freedom".
Dozens of beautifully made ceramic women shoes is various shapes, colors and styles all arranged carefully across tastefully chosen streets in old Nicosia, helps the spectator imagine and feel an invisible/ghost march of women towards a specific goal . "Women can break down all barriers of freedom, to walk towards a boundless horizon" she mentions." These shoes that have fallen onto the streets are ones that yearn for peace and kinship". A very hopeful message.
Cyprus nibbles, wine and good conversation throughout the evening. This gatherings are good for those who, like most of us, despair form time to time, for those of us who are tempted to give up on hope. A brilliant reminder of how things could be.

Hope to see you all in the next meeting
x
