Being from a legal family has advantages. I start off by making threats; a solicitor's letter to Customer Services usually results in a timely response and, if it doesn't, a Web search of the corporate site or Companies House to find the CEO's name and address, followed by a second solicitor's letter, always does!

(I bypass call centres; people on phones are the most stupendous engine of delay and obfuscation and, in any case, they often can't understand what I say).

I realise that the option I have is not open to many, and I am often attacked for "seeing everything in legal terms". Sadly, a lot of companies large and small only feel the blows from a legalistic sledgehammer; others bounce off Sad

not exactly the same topic, but this case came back to my memory when reading this: (applies not only to british people but all EU members citizens as I understand it)

SMALL CLAIMS PROCESS TO CROSS EURO BORDERS

British tourists who purchase faulty goods whilst on holiday in other European Union countries will be able to get quicker, simpler solutions under a procedure agreed by Ministers meeting in Luxembourg.

The UK negotiations on the proposals have been led by Baroness Cathy Ashton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Constitutional Affairs. She welcomed the developments and said:

"This is excellent news for anyone who needs to bring a small claim in another EU country. .................
