From the kindness of their hearts Turkey has allowed Kurdish Language TV to transmit for 45 minutes twice week: How nice of them:
But there MUST be Turkish language subtitles and also the program will be checked thoroughly by Turkish censors:
Well to look at it honestly it is more than I thought that Turkey would do BUT the EU is slowly nibbling away at Turkeys hard outer lining and you never know Turkey might one day give the Kurds an extra 5 minute in the future: |

So when are they going to give the other minorities 45 minute 2 days a week?
ONLY when the EU makes them: In the EU there are 100's of radio and TV channel transmitting in 100,s of languages free to do as they will: This is call the European way of life:
But what does Turkey call this way of thinking? Let me know? |

In Australia they have 100s of ethnic radio and TV channel broadcasting without fear and censorship: That is what I call freedom of expression:
The same must apply to the EU and if SO then Turkey must do the same IF it believe in true EU values:
So what I am saying is Turkey still has a long way to go to be able to get the EU criteria finished:
BUT Turkey is the one that is afraid:
They say if we give the Kurds Radio and TV they will ask for a country:
If we give the Armenians the same they will talk about the genocide:
BUT if Turkey wants to be part of the EU it MUST start letting some on the past be scrutinized by others and not just sweep it under the carpet Hoping it disappears: |

Depurple,
45 minutes twice a week is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. And it is a long way from the times (only a few short years ago) when they denied there were any Kurds, but called them "mountain Turks".
But you are right, things have to change a lot more before Turkey satisfies the accession criteria. That is why they are talking about 15 -20 years of negotiations,it will take that long for a lot of things to change in Turkey.(Assuming that both Turkey and the EU are genuine about membership, which i am not so sure about). |
