| I am surprised that Byron hasn't been mentioned here at all (so it would seem), but Mary McCarthy's biography is a masterpiece and, unusually, slants the argument towards Messolonghi. (Most Byroniana I've read concentrates on his - ahem - turbulent middle years). |
