He was good but quite overated after his death. With the help of hype and marketing, he is portrayed as some kind of saviour..but he was just another rapper who contradicted himself over and over again...like any normol guy.
What I hate that most of his die hard fans now never heard of him when he ws alive...and the songs that have been made since his death..well 99% are total CRAP!
Tupac would NEVER have done a song with Elton John if he was alive...and think it's total disrespect that such a song should be recorded...even for charity.
Best Tupac song...'I Get Around'. |

Yes, you can see that many times. I mean there were so many people that had never heard of The Doors, but after the movie came out suddenly there were millions of Doors fans....

...people are easily led by hype these days.
That's why certain music genre's are getting worse...because the bar has been lowered in terms of quality in order to get recognition. |

| I had heard of 2Pac before his death and thought some of his stuff was ok... only heard him mostly in collaboration with people like Dr. Dre though. The hype surrounding him now is part of the 'morbid chic' phenomenon that surrounds celebrities who die before their time, either through murder or suicide - look at the nonsense surrounding the talentless Fat Rapper who was buddies with P Diddy (can't remember his name). In some cases (Kurt Cobain) the hype is warranted, but in 2Pac's case, it just smacks of bandwagoning, with most people saying they like him because it's considered 'cool' to do so. As for his 'collaboration' with Elton John, I think 2Pac would be horrified, just like Elvis would be horrified at what's been released in his name in recent years. Best Tupac song I know, 'California Love' with Dr. Dre. |

I actually prefer Notorious B.I.G (talentless fat rapper) to Tupac...well, his first album anyway. Biggie's first album is a Hip Hop classic and one for the more die hard Hip Hop fans....Biggie's second album was a bit more commercial and mainstream but I doubt you wuld have heard anything from Biggie's first album.
Besides, the three best rappers ever (KRS1, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane) are all still alive but peaked before rap music was big business, hence not being as recognised as Biggie and Tupac. |

That's him. You're right that I haven't heard his first album, but from the stuff I've heard I don't really rate him. I agree with your characterisation of Big Daddy Kane as one of the greats, IMO the best.
Can't beat a bit of Public Enemy though |

I like B.I.G too...they're playing one of his songs, Juicy, a lot lately in the US. Good song. Is that from his first album? |

| Yeah 'Juicy' is probably the biggest song from his first album and is the cut that gets played in the clubs the most...along with 'Get Money' and 'One More Chance' remix. Me personally I am sick of 'Juicy' because I have heard it sooooo much think there are better tracks on his album but probably not with the mass appeal as 'Juicy' has. If you really want my respect, then you'll get 'Juicy Fruit' by Mtume...which is the sample used by 'Juicy'. |
