according to politis it seems we are loosing a case in the ECHR.
a Turkish Cypriot living in the south demanded his political rights.
tass the pap, seems to be in favor, and appears to have ordered for a change in the constitution for Turkish Cypriots living in the south to have political rights.
dont forget we have elections soon.
the changes do not apply for Turkish Cypriots living in the north... even though, if i am not mistaken levent is suing the Republic of Cyprus for that... |

It's part of the Turkish Cypriot effort to get "revenge" for the Titina Loizidou case. |

The case is already tried in the ECHR and the Republic of Cyprus lost it, two years ago. It was the case of Ibrahim Aziz vs Cyprus. The parliament is not changing the constitution in order to accommodate voting rights of Turkish Cypriots living in the south but instead is enacting a temporary law, as per ECHR order. |

I cant remember who asked me if there were any Turkish Cypriot in the south and I said I spoke to many living in Limassol near the Old Port:
Well there must be a few if they want to give them a vote: What the Turkish Cypriot should do latter is put a candidate up for elections in the south and see what reaction the Greek Cypriot give:
Also consider putting a Turkish Cypriot for an EU position: |

Tassos calls on House to pass law granting vote to Turkish Cypriots
By Jean Christou
(archive article - Saturday, January 14, 2006)
A LONG-delayed bill allowing Turkish Cypriots living in the south of the island to vote in elections could be passed into law within weeks, after President Tassos Papadopoulos sent an urgent letter to the President of the House pressing for its approval.
According to reports yesterday, the letter was discussed at a meeting of party leaders on Thursday. They said the letter from Papadopoulos to House President Demetris Christofias outlined the urgency of approving the bill in the face of possible action from the EU for not doing so.

I know Ibrahim Aziz (the guy who won the court case that sparked this law). He's one of the few Turkish Cypriots who didn't go to the north after 1974. Instead, he stayed here and continued working as a public servant at the Ministry of Agriculture at Athalassa. He's most probably retired now.
When I first met him as a kid, I looked at him with awe: I had never seen a Turkish Cypriot before. |

| Does this mean that those Turkish Cypriots living in the north with dual nationality Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and "Republic of Cyprus" can also vote in the south? If not can they take the "Republic of Cyprus" to court/ECHR because Greek Cypriots with dual nationality living in the UK or anywhere else in the world can come and vote in local elections? |

The ones that had righteousness on their site. Unfortunately, justice and courts don't seem to go together. |
