Quote:
Vodafone, the winner of Telsim sell-off by the Turkish Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) that offered $4,550 million on December 13, is to buy Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) Telsim. The British company will pay $30 million more in the frame of the conditions of the bid agreement.

On the other end, the result of the Telsim bid was presented to Telecommunication Institution and the Competition Board. They are expected to announce their decisions in one month.

Is this allowed with the economic sanctions?

it is as far as i know, telsim Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus belongs to telsim.
Telsim Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is different to Telsim in Turkey because it is considered a sister company abroad in another country.

Vodafone also owns Cyta GSM (company name: CytaMobile/Vodafone). There's a good chance that this would allow them, under Republic of Cyprus laws, to operate TelSim with the same license they have for operating CytaGSM (if they use the same frequencies).

This could also have the added benefit of actually having - for the first time - our mobiles work in both sides with a single Vodafone card (either Cyta GSM or Telsim). Cool

Telsim Turkey and Telsim North Cyprus were seperate companies but I believe that vodaphone has now bought both entities.

I would not be surprised if they soon implmented roaming from sout cypriot networks to north, but alos keep them as 'international' roaming deals, as that makes much more money for them.

Just to rectify once more the misinformation provided once again by another forum member, Vodafone doesn't own Cyta GSM but instead they have signed a partnership agreement. Cyta Gsm remains in the ownership of CyTA, as a subsidiary company. The Cytamobile-Vodafone is the new trademark that this partnership agreement between CyTA GSM and Vodafone has generated.
