Temp licences for Turkish Cypriot bus and lorry drivers
A PLAN to issue provisional driving licences to Turkish Cypriot bus and lorry drivers was delivered by the government to the House plenum yesterday to legalise the movement of Turkish Cypriot buses and lorries in the Cyprus Republic.
Attorney General Petros Clerides said that the purpose of the effort was to issue “provisional temporary licences in categories L1, L2 and F to Cyprus Republic citizens who live permanently in non-government controlled areas.”
The licences will be given after the drivers prove that they have fulfilled certain qualifications that will be specified by the Transportation Minister.
Cyprus citizens residing in the north who can prove that they were driving oversized vehicles before the 2001 law on driving licences, will not need to fulfill the new qualifications to receive a licence in the that vehicle category.

Is this a step towards equality for Turkish Cypriots? or one rule for them another rule for us? |
