just installed FF 1.5. Don't see much difference.
Unfortunately no compatible version of Google Toolbar available.
Anyone came across one somewhere? |
Yes there is a version available. I'm running it right now. |
Thanks, but actually I decided I don't want/need it anymore.
Moose, welcome to the club! |

Here is a screenshot of my customized Firefox. Shows some of the capabilities of the appy.
My default FF installation includes:
- SkyPilot Classic theme.
- Web Developer Toolbar: Useful for all of us who develop web sites.
- Google Toolbar: Search anything, anywhere.
- Live news feeds from my favorite tech news sites.
- Adblock: Removes all annoying ads.
- ForecastFox: Weather forecast for Nicosia, Cyprus.
- FlashGot: Makes FF use your favorite download manager.
People, let's admit it: Next to Firefox, Internet Explorer is dull. |

Right click on the ad you want to block, and select "Adblock image". It won't show in the future.

If you have a download manager, like FlashGet, you can use Flashgot to integrate FF with it, so that your downloads will be re-directed to the download manager instead of the FF downloads window.
Download managers are nice little programs that use a bunch of hacks to speed up your downloads. |

Or, even better, use the Adblock Filterset.G Updater - what a name! - which downloads a precast list of patterns (regularly updated) into Adblock; any URL matching those patterns is blocked.
There is also an improved version of Adblock - Adblock Plus.
The final piece in the jigsaw is Flashblock, which replaces those hideous Flash adverts/site introductions with a right-arrow (click on the arrow to view the Flash, rather than having it play automatically).
When this is all set up and running adverts suddenly vanish en masse!

I've just installed that, and it seems to work. It has added a whole bunch of filters to my Adblock, which actually block ads from a lot of major web sites. It's also promised to keep the filters list updated every 4 days. |
