Lord of the flies by teacher William Golding was originally a novel published in 1954 aimed at children. It is aimed at showing the striking transition from civilised (1950s England was still a time of polite society) to barbaric. Basically some kids get stranded on an island at war time, and at first try to organise themselves and elect a bhgroup leader by democratic means, but later with disgrunted members of the group becoming more forceful, anarchy takes over, and the group leader (i forget his name) just sites and watches as the group cause havoc. Towards the end one group member is blamed for black magic (causing the wild boar to attack the group), and accidently gets killed. It is also after this that a RAF man arrives on the island and kids all realise what they have done. damn good film and a classic.
