Why re, have the British people realized that? Wink

The majority of football games in the UK now take place without violence between fans. Yes, it happens at a small number of matches, but the police are usually in place to contain such organised violence before it starts. So a lot has changed since the mid-1980s. In comparison, I recall exiting GSP after an Omonia-AEL game and watching as about 50 Omonia fans ran around the stadium with stones in hand... this would certainly have been contained at any major game in the UK.

It seems that British fans now reserve their violence for matches overseas where the police aren't so ready. Wink

That's what I mean, re. The British people haven't realized anything, they are just "contained" because of the large numbers of police. Laughing

I think to a large extent, the game has become more family friendly...lots more kids, women and old people come to watch football in the UK. It has become less yobish imo.

there are still problems, but i think it is only between hardcore-yobs. Most people i would hope wouldnot get involved in a fight, whereas i would assume they would have in the 80s

Football hooligansim has crept back since about the late 90's. Thing is the trouble happens away from the ground and often use a team as an excuse to form some kind of gang.

I'll never forget the day I was working at an Arsenal v Tottenham match in about 96 or 97 and saw fans ripping off seats and throwing them eachother over the segregation line lol.

When i went to Anorthosis vs the Turkish team in the summer there were APOEL fans in there. 99% of people did not watch the game just shout at the turks.
