....and jailed. I can't believe grown men behave in such ways. This is similar but not as violent as the hazing incidents that Fraternity and sorority candidates endure at American Unis. Psychological and physical torture. Some have actually died mostly due to alcohol poisoning. It's a cryin shame. |

I was really shocked when I saw the video footage last night on german TV.
I mean I know that there are certain "inauguration rituals", not only in the army, also f.e. on ships when sailors first time cross the equator, but what happened in that video was certainly off limits!!
The persons in charge who allowed such things to take place have definately to be prosecuted and minimum to be dishonourable discharged. |

| Its not only in the british marines, that this happens, it happens in most countries with serious SF training. Although im not saying that you need this to have a serious SF selection, it does seem to be the standard sometimes. IF you guys remember you would have seen pics of dutch special forces recruits being tortured around 2 years back, the same with the US marines, although not SF, in some camps pictures were shown of the new recruits being hang up and whipped by the older members in a initiation ritual. I know it happens in turkey in the SAT/SAS forces, and some commando brigades, in many case those who apply have their hands broken or ribs broken in the obstacles they have to overcome. THat naked fighting i also saw with russian forces. Its not uncommon at all. This all stops immediately once they are accepted within in the regiment, its only during the selection procedure they will face this. |

Thats probably true, but that doesn't make it any better or more acceptable imo. |

This incident runs totally anathema to the selection procedures and discipline of the UK army and particularly to the discipline and mutual respect expected from special forces soldiers like the Royal Marine Commandos. Once identified, you can expect to see these men court-martialled, jailed and discharged from the Marines. They will be regarded as a disgrace to the unit. |

Thats the appearance they might pretend to have, but most selection procedures will contain some of the above. Although in this case it was not controlled as the officer in charge was drunk, more often than not, this is what the candidates are subjected to, and like i said its a standardised thing. If you consider that most Nato countries learnt and set up SF units and tactics from each other, you will see at the end of the day the selection procedures are pretty much similiar. |
