It only reflects how Turkish Cypriots are becoming extinct because there are not enough Turkish Cypriots living in Cyprus to continue their own language . . .

Is this because all the people in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are Turks from Turkey?

Yes....but also due to the fact that cypriots with regional accents are losing them (like the pafitian one in the article), because the youngsters do not live there anymore

This happens all over the world. People are attracted to 'big city life' and they loose their 'old' culture including their regional acent.

I think Crash is right.

Turkish Cypriot is not a written language. It is the traditional language that Turkish Cypriots have used but as they go to schools they are confronted with learning the standard turkish so it is obvious that the traditional language is gradually getting lost.

I am sure greek, like bulgarian and turkish as well, has so many dialects, which are converging towards the standard language. The regional variations are simply diminishing due to regionalization and globalization of language so eventually we are all going to loose our traditional way of speaking.

In the past people were completely isolated in their villages, which was ideal for preserving their language, but that is no longer the case. Urbanization is the main culprit, not the division.

Is there any Turkish Cypriot online radio? I'd like to refresh my memories of how it sounded.
