The Council of Europe has demanded an investigation into claims the US ran secret jails for terror suspects.
The human rights watchdog called the claims "extremely worrying" and said such prisons would constitute a serious human rights violation.
A US newspaper said such prisons were set up in eight countries - some of them unnamed Eastern European states. |
would not surprise me |

Very interesting and not surprising at all. I wonder what East European nations are involved? |

| It was on the Bulgarian news. I wouldnt surprised if there are some such prisons in Bulgaria. My government is quite a keen supporter of the "war against terror". |

BG,
Did Bulgaria have any Gulags during the communist regime or were political prisoners sent to mother Russia? |

The place where political prisoners were sent during the communist regime was Belene - in the north on the Danube river (they are building a nuclear power plant there now).
Many turks who refused to be submit to the communist regime were sent there, including one of my close relatives. A pretty bad place. Fortunately it has been dismantled now. |
