This is the thread in which to say hello and offer a 'bio' short of long if you wish too.

There has been some discussion on whether this should be a seperate section of the forum or just a sticky in general chat area.

http://www.visionmatters.co.uk/cyprusBB/viewtopic.php?t=3

For the time being I have decided to make it a sticky in the general chat area, but if you feel otherwise then please feel free to express this i the thread above.

Anyway onto the introductions

Hi All,

I am 35 years old and currently live in the u.k , i was born in the u.k and both my parents are Turkish Cypriot from Cyprus who fled to the u.k in the 60's but when i was 2 my parents took us back to cyprus and we opened a restaurant in Limassol but 1974 after the complications in Cyprus we went back to the u.k but at 12 years old my father said we looked and acted more english than cypriot and took us back to cyprus again where i went to school at TMK in Lefkosia and then went to Eastern Med. University where i studied business and economics.
Came back to u.k in 1989 after a big fight in uni with the son of a Turkish General, who i beat to the edge of his life because he thought he was allowed to do what he wanted (being a son of general) and sexually harrassed my cousin but the next day the general sent his soilders to get me (arrest me for b**ls**t reasons and probably kill me) at uni and my economics lecturer assisted me to get away before the turkish soilders got there hands on me, 2 days later i was back in u.k.
After that i spent my time from one job to another (i find i get bored very quickly and easily) but getting into management from 21 assured that i would always work as a manager one way or another hence i have worked in many industries.
Had two physco-metric tests to date which confirm me as a "cameleon manager" which means i adjust to all environments hence my attitude with my boss as to me there is 10000 other jobs out there waiting for me.
Got married 7 years ago and have two kids, my daughter is 6 years old and my son is 3.5 years old.
We lived in Stevenage where we suffered racial harrasment and then at the begining of this year my wife and son was attacked by a racist man hence i decided to sell up and moved to Enfield this Friday gone 5th August where there lives a lot of cypriots, greeks, turks etc.
We now are going to save up for 3 years more and then we will be moving back to cyprus, my wife has a 3 bed flat in Lefkosa and i am currently buying some pre-74 Turkish Cypriot owned land with my brother and father in Girne/kyrenia where we should by the begining of january 2006 start to build some luxury flats for ourselves (plan to build 6, keep 3 and sell 3) but for the moment i work as a Senior sales manager for a firm that sells vacuum press equipment used in the cabinet making ind. etc. and also sell very expensive bespoke kitchens (start from £27,000 for a basic one) which i think is near is expirey date as i am bored out of my tree.

Well thats a little about me, if i told you my whole life story Eastenders or the sort would be calling me.

I have made my bio a linked webpage, because it's long and boring and thus if you chose to click on the link then you can not (though prob will) complain to me that it's long and boring ;)

It was actually a reply to a PM I got that got a bit 'out of hand' length and detail wise but here it is anyway for any who might be intrested.

I posted this on the old forum yesterday, but seems better to have it here now:

O.K. my turn, well my name is Liza I am 29 yrs of age and I'm a Cancerian (Not that I actually believe much in the stars).
I'm 1.70m and I could do with losing about 5kgs (but I've been saying that for 9yrs now) My dads Greek Cypriot from Morfu and my mum's British, I have 2 sisters and 1 brother (I'm the eldest) I'm married to a Greek Cypriot (originally from Ammoxostos) and blessed with two kids (Boy 5.5 and Girl 2) . I was born in London and lived there for 11yrs we then came over to Cyprus (for a trial period) of 2 yrs where we all settled (sort of) and then we had to go back to the U.K. (rather disturbing to leave all new friends again) as my moms sister was diagnosed with Cancer (she subsequently died 1 year later) that was a big trauma for me as I was very close to my Aunt Anyway moving swiftly along my parents moved back over here 2 years later and left me with my nan in London to finish my GCSE's I did that and did 2 yrs of college but really wasn't mature enough to handle living in London practically alone (smoking way too much weed!) so I came back to Cyprus where I was lucky enough to find a good job which has given me the opportunity to grow from admin assistant to executive trader, its a Ukrainian company and basically we sell various steel products worldwide.

Character description: I generally think I'm easy going, logical and open minded I'm critical of myself rather than of others, sometimes I think I should give myself a break!
I'm not a religious person but I'd like to believe that there's a higher power up there that will look after the normal little people in this world that live day to day as best they can and all the nasty evil shits will be punished.

Life Goal: To be a good wife/mummy/ grandmother eventually ...

ok, then, copy/paste Laughing

I'm 34 years old, born and grown up in East Germany. No siblings. No kids.
When the wall came down I was in the middle of my professional education as a foreign trade merchant which I finished in 1990 with a very good final certificate which then turned out to be not accepted in the West, i.e. the new political situation and economic circumstances. Therefore I started all over with a new education in West Berlin, becoming a banker. Being that for about 5 years gave me a deep enough inside into how capitalism works and made me decide this is not really my cup of tea. Neither the job, nor the country. So I emigrated to Cyprus which I had got to know in previous holidays. There was no particular reason to choose the island, I just liked all of it when spending my holidays there. So in the mid 90ies I moved and worked 3,5 years as a tourist rep in the Republic of Cyprus. I had learned basic greek in evening school but to no sufficient extend. Being in Cyprus it didn't get much easier as nearly everyone speaks English, especially in the tourist industry. Therefore my greek remained poor, but my English improved vastly. Smile To fix that greek language problem I decided to do one summer season in Greece and went to work for the same tourist company in Crete. It wasn't any better there. Due to the lots of german tourists there, all people involved spoke german!
I finished some greek lessons here now and need practice. Turkish is next on the list for the same reason as Cannedmoose mentioned, I would like to be able to communicate with all Cypriots.
Anyway, in the meantime some personal things had changed and I had to make a decision and set priorities - meaning I ended up returning to Germany. Crying or Very sad Now I'm stuck here, working for a company that localizes software. I'm sort of running the office, doing the accounting and administration stuff.... I like the job, the people and the international environment that comes with it, but unfortunately its in the wrong country.
I would like to leave again, not necessarily to Cyprus again, just away from here....

I used to go out a lot when I was younger, but maybe its the age that I'm a more lazy person now. Enjoying sitting at home, watching a good movie (Kill Bill, to name just one Smile ) with my BF or reading a book, preferably dealing with the bad sides of politics and its economic connections (e.g. Michael Moore) or revealing the international connections of the intelligence services (e.g. Victor Ostrovsky). Another good read are books about the possible developments in the future like "1984" or "Brave new world".
Musicwise I'm into the 80ies in its full extend, from Pop to Punk, but I also like good Worldmusic and a few other bits.

I still go to Cyprus once or twice a year, just love the sun, sea, people, food - everything. Very Happy

i let rip at main source and the administrator ending my final post with

"right and just to prove it - watch me get banned now"

guess what - yup i got banned within two hours

me

im a single drop dead good looking geyser, forty ten years young, cool, smart ass.

i got two even smarter assed daughters aged 18 n 20. I would dearly love to sell my home n move to Girne, where i have land on which to build. I actually put mt house in london on auction last year but withdrew it after the turkey eu talks- currently awaiting oct 3 talks, looking for a positive outcome, either yes or no, dont really care which, but i dont want to wait for another oct 3.

the issue of cyprus - well we can all take a bit of responsibility here - what i find such a tragic shame is that here in london g and t get on like brothers and sisters, well all the ones i know, and that is hundreds.

i think the best way forward is slowly slowly building a real trust between our two communities, rather than having one thrust upon us which we may resent. i see in our youth an increased tolerance of each other and think our best way towards re-unification is probably left to later generations. The present day young uns can play an important part here by laying the foundations of tolerance and peace for future generations to build upon.

i dont expect too much from my generation - we lived through the hatred etc.

anyway babble babble babble huh?

hope this site is a massive success, and contributes to developing trust and understanding between our communities - tall order, but it is possible.

i think this is a way to share my pain.

hola todos.

i am a 21 year old student studying chemical engineering in Los Angeles. i am greek by heritage and this summer my paperwork was officially completed. also i thought you would be happy to know that i do not have to attend the military in Greece unless i am in the country for more than 6 months. i am hoping that after my studies end in December I will go back and fulfull my 6 month duty/ vacation though so I can continue living within the EU borders. Otherwise I am dreading the very likely fact that I will get a job here and be stick here (w/in the states) for years to come.

I just arrived to LA last night to discover that my bags never arrived. I have a feeling (from the start) that I will never see my bags again and they are lost forever. Additionally, I have no apartment here because I am only here for 4 more months and most places require a 12 month lease.

So basically I am in a city I hate, with no housing and no clothing whatsoever. Despite that I have very good friends and my trusty laptop so for the time being I do need to take any anti depressants (also considering that they were in my missing luggage).

ALso, my mother is a refugee from Cyprus. IF you dont know what its like I guess the best comparison is to like it the overhyped int'l news relating the Israeli thieves who were occupying Gaza for some 30 years and now are required to leave. No matter how evil the people are in the end were all people and giving up your home, your residence and your life is never easy. Imagine if you had no fault at this as, like my 15 year old mother.

I guess thats it. The truth is out. Ha!

Also I cut my hair recently shorter than its been in quite a few years with a little "rat tail" in the back that nobody seems to like.

PS this spell check thing is really fuckina nnoying.

Hey all.

My real name is George and I'm 34 years old, born and raised in London but moved to Larnaka just over a year ago. My father is originally from Lemesos and my mother is from Lefka. I have 2 sisters, both married, both older than me and both have 3 kids each. I figured with the amount of kids they have, I should stay single without any as it will get ridiculously expensive at Christmas and Easter as well as for their birthdays (just kidding on that btw). I have short black hair which I sometimes have it spiky and sometimes just have it coming forward, it all depends on my mood and how much time I have and brown eyes. I'm 6' tall and a little overweight around the belly, which is going down slowly but surely which is the way I prefer it. I used to smoke between 30-40 cigarettes a day but successfully managed to kick my addiction almost 4 years ago (not had a single one since Smile ) My only addiction at the moment is diet coke. I drink way to much of it. I like the taste too much though I will be cutting down on it soon (have on average 10 cans a day Shocked ).

Music wise, I love most genres of music other than folk and country, though I do have a very big dislike....no, make that hatred for the Crazy Frog!
