Very sad but true... BBC has decided to close down some of its international sites/services and sack the respective journalists. Unfortunately the Greek service is among those that will be forced to close (we're talking about a service that was operating for 66 years). And the reason for this is the opening of the Arabic tv station... :O(
The link will take you to the greek BBC page (for as long as it exists)...

I don't understand why they are closing down the web pages as well. They could at least leave the web pages intact (how expensive is it to maintain it and keep a couple of journalists too?)...
Also, I am puzzled regarding this upcoming Arabic tv station. How is BBC so sure that this experiment will succeed? I mean why would an Arab choose BBC (the Westerner's propaganda) to Al Jazeera? After all the reason Al Jazeera was built in the first place was to fill the vacuum of news by Arabs/Muslims to Arabs/Muslims isn't it? |

This is part of a larger cost-cutting execise.....lots of different languages are being 'chucked away' by the bbc....streamlining.
Afterall, it is british TV lisence payers wo are paying for it! |

The Bulgarian webservice is being closed for the same reason
But the Macedonian is staying (Bulgaria claims there is no macedonian language, but views it as a dialect of Bulgarian) |
