I liked the first one as well. But it might resemble Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus flag. I hope G.Cs do not see it in that way. 6th flag looks like the Dutch flag, and makes Cyprus one of the islands of Netherlands Antilles  |

What are the meanings behind the flags?
I liked chrisses one cos it was kind of original, but with roots from the old flag...but he also gave meaning to it.
If we are to agree on a flag...it should not be to just look nice...it needs to mean something...sensible!!
I like some of the ideas, but chris' is my first choice still. |

You're right but what other colors can we use for a Cypriot flag? As Dhavlos said, I think it's important to have some meaning behind the flag. I used red and blue for obvious reasons. White for purity, green for peace and yellow for copper, and hence Cyprus. Anyone has any other "meaningful" colors they would like to see in a future Cypriot flag?

I basically started with other country's flags and edited them in Paint. It's really easy once you get the hang of it. It took me about 30 mins to generate these flags. Besides I love flags anyway (but not in a nationalistic way, just the design).

Indeed, it's a quick copy/paste to the Romanian/Moldovian flag

Actually, I hacked the Croatian flag for that one I thought it was kind of cool. It has both red and blue and Cyprus in the middle, kind of embracing them both.

There you go. Let's call this Flag10. It's pretty much the same as Flag2 but equal white stripes. Do people like this better?

I agree Dhavlos but I didn't really think too hard about the designs. I just wanted to get some designs going. I think if we agree on a flag design, it's easy to attach some meaning to it. It's true the other way around as well. You can start with a meaning and create a flag out of it but I think it's harder. |
