Hrmph!

My wire is connected to one of the first few exchanges to be enabled and I have been trying to get my current connection (Bulldog Broadband) migrated to Be Unlimited.

The process is proving sluggish - 6 weeks so far, including periods of 2 weeks with no contact, and the latest action was for Be to declare a support ticket I raised to enquire about the delay "closed" ... without any answer! I have also had form emails from them stating "not long to go" (to the migration) when that is patently not true.

I have just sent off my second letter to their HQ; to their credit, they do respond to those (with the Chief Engineer last time, not some flunkey) but I am not happy at the delays and general lack of information Evil or Very Mad

The only advantage of all this is that no money has changed hands. So, if the whole thing collapses, nothing lost nothing gained ...

Alastair

PS The sheer unwillingness of organisations to admit to problems (Be Unlimited is not the only one with which I am struggling at the moment) never ceases to amaze me. If there is something wrong, for heaven's sake say so!

Sounds too good to be true, though a couple of things are quite alarming.......

While bandwidths are not guaranteed, we do offer the highest bandwidth available using ADSL2+ to your premises.

In other words, they can really give you 2 meg connection and make up some crap to justify it, and there is sod all you can do because 24meg isn't guaranteed.

How and when will I be billed for the service?
You are billed quarterly in advance and the billing amount is calculated from the day that your Be service is activated. The first deduction will be made from your account two days prior to the service being activated. This invoice will cover the installation fee and pro-rata broadband service fees from the day of activation to the end of the billing period. All further invoices will be sent in advance of the next quarterly billing period.

Hang about, a company that nobody has ever heard of asking for 3 months rental up front?

I'm probably too suspicious here!

Actually ... that is the least of my worries. Although, for some peculiar reason, they play it down, Be Unlimited is formed from former staff members of a big Swedish company who decided to export the model.

As it turns out my wire has been tested and the opinion is that I would get ~21Mb/sec. (Certainly, it does 2Mb/sec with ease, which is by no means a given for many people I know; I am less than 1km from the exchange, though).

My current connection costs £29pcm for 2Mb/sec. £20pcm for somewhat less than 24Mb/sec would seem a no-brainer
