| Well the total dead figure has now risen to over 20,000 people and still increasing, this is another human tragedy. |

I hate to pick on the Yanks once again... but they currently have dozens of transport and heavy-lift helicopters operating in Afghanistan, yet none of these have yet been offered to Pakistan to assist with ferrying people and materiel into the affected region. On BBC this morning, a Pakistani minister begged Britain and the US to offer these helicopters to assist with the operation to get into Kashmir, which is essentially cut off from the outside world.
I also wonder... since Pakistani Kashmir was mostly affected, will this lead to a new rapprochement between India and Pakistan, a la the 'earthquake diplomacy' that occurred between Greece and Turkey in 1999? Maybe some good would come of this terrible event in that case... let's wait and see if India offers any assistance. |

I was worried all weekend because my colleague's family is from North-West Pakistan - and I didn't have the nerve to ring him in case there was bad news.
Fortunately, there wasn't - all his relatives are safe! (And thank goodness for mobile phones - needless to say, land networks were ruined).

That would be something good indeed! Like it happens in Indonesia now, that peace is approaching in the Aceh area which was badly hit by the Tsunami last Xmas.
Well, Germany sent 50 (!) soldiers over from Afghanistan. |

I hate it when at times like this, politicians remain pathetically nationalist... when will we all learn? |
Its just pure political madness, indian helicopters could be in unreachable areas within 15 mins and they refuse this help and aid, i am sorry but i despair at the way some goverments act. |

i hope this canhelpto resolve issues....
kinda like Turkey/Greece...after the earthquake, relationsbetween the two blossomed, but the sticky issue(Cyprus)remains a relatively sore point....
will we see relative peace inkashmir now? or will it just become anarchic? |
