Another query!
As you've seen am getting married in Cyprus next year to a British born Cypriot. Every time he goes to Cyprus he has to take his passport and get an exit visa so that he doesn't have to do National Service!
Last time we went (2003) he had to go to Larnaca to get an exit visa although he had heard that he wouldn't need to do that anymore when he comes again. He's 31 now and we're going again in October and he's concerned he's going to have to get another exit visa!
Any idea if this law has changed now?? |

| That's bloody ridiculous - so every time we visit Cyprus until he's 50 he has to get an exit visa! Annoying..... |

I'm going to ring them and find out. Thank you for the advice.
I just rang him and told him and he said he's never going there again!! I doubt it very much. I think he would be exempt if his dad hadn't been born in Cyprus but he was and came to england when he was little. |

I still haven't sent the forms off as I noticed they were from Australia and needed to be sent back to Australia Embassy. I've emailed the Cypriot High Commission but haven't heard back....do you think they have separate forms for UK residents??
Thanks! |

Excellent - thank you for that! I did think it was a bit daft anyway considering my fiance considers himself more British (and too lazy to be in any army!)
PS I just rang the Cypriot Embassy in London and the lady told me that anyone over 21 no longer need an exit permit - phew, that's something off the list now.... |

hm, not sure. These articles from yesterdays Cyprus Mail make a different reading...at least about the maximum age. It says 26 there...
Exit permits are utterly ‘pointless’
| Quote: |
| NOT only is the MoD’s exit visa requirement a blatant violation of EU legislation on free movement (see article), it is to a great extent a pointless exercise for both state and the men involved. |
Trampling on our boys’ rights
| Quote: |
| Last June, the MoD insisted that young men aged 16 needed an exit permit to leave the country – a full two years before they are inducted into the army. The ruling reinstated a requirement that had existed many years earlier, and lasts until men are 26. |

Exit visas are not very strict anymore, if your over 21 then it is very unlikely that they will ask you to show exit visa.
As for boys rights, it is a bit stupid the article of cyprus mail imo, well from the time the are borders and there is no freedom of movement from country to country then exit visa is just as bad as entry visa. The government does it to stop those like me avoiding the army from exiting Cyprus, as stupid or unfair as it is, it is the law...not all laws need to make sense |
