So what kind of mathematics do you use in there? I'd venture a guess that the mathematical connection is mostly via periodic/trigonometric functions?? Is that so?

parametric modelling ( using mostly autoregressive ( since I dealt with voiced speech ) but also moving average and ARMA )

as for the rest, yes, discrete Fourier transform.. but not limited to, anything ( correct me if I am wrong ) periodic and orthogonal is game

Merchant, can you possible suggest us some good speech to text software packages, so that we will avoid all this typing and simply dictate to the computer what want to say and have it typed for us like a secretary would do? I know there are some, but those I have tried do not seem to work properly.

Hi all,
I am your newest Villager.
I am 31 years old and live in the UK. I moved to Cyprus in 1994 to complete my national service and then returned back to the UK soon after. I am married but no kids yet... the time is coming though, I think my wife is getting broody!!!
My family live in Limassol and we try to visit twice a year.
I won £4.6m on the lottery last year and have now become a man of leisure (sorry, just kidding...I wish)
I look forward to chatting with you guy's soon.

MadMac

hahaha.. the holy grail. no, i am afraid there are none which really do the job 'good'. The existing (sophisticated) STT software rely heavily on neural networks and neural networks can take you so far, not to say that there is no room for improvement. Thing is, you have to 'train' the software for it to 'learn' and 'adapt' to your speech. And even though you can train it for a long time, it won't be able to learn everything and will still do mistakes. And if you try making it 'universal' oh boy.. you better not expect a large 'vocabulary'.
