Turkey has won a 2 year seat on the UNSC see here:

What are the members views of this and how do members think it will effect the current negotiations in Cyprus? |

| Don't think it will make a difference, just like the entry of Cyprus in EU didn't make a difference. Turkey will still occupy Cyprus regardless. |

i hope that the seat Turkey won at the SC will be well deserved, with her contribution of many troops, she has another opportunity to brighten a 'tarnished' image now.
at this point, it is hoped that the UN will have an influence on Turkey, rather than the other way around. |

You are both right.
Turkey has been voted on to the SC due to problems other than Cyprus as it is a major player in the region.
I doubt it will have a major effect on the current talks as they are more Cypriot owned than any that have gone before.
The only exception to this may be to being up the point that the trouble started in '63 not '74. If this is the case and more people/countries know this then that is a small PR victory. |
