The above statement shows your ignorance. I think you better get your facts right, the UN never recognised the 1974 invasion as a legitimate action
LOGICALLY THEN....
Therefore the "Invasion" (intervention, peace operation etc) WAS deemed illigitimate by the UN..
Therefore that "Problem" was recognised by the UN.....
Therefore Baghdatis saying he was "protesting a situation that was NOT recognised by the UN" could not refer to the 1974 Turkish intervention on Cyprus.
So...
YOU trying to twist MY words is a matter of YOUR ignorance, not mine

sorry mate, I got you wrong. I though you was trying to say that the invasion was not recognised as an invasion, anyway I guess again Marcos needs to clarify what's "a situation that was not recognised by the UN" |

how sad can an individual be and living on past history from centuries ago ,,, is the education system failing these individuals ?
Spoonfed hate from birth ! Brainwashed into despising the boogeyman, but what's the payback ? well, the delusional notion that their "race" is somehow the master race and all lesser beings are inferior, putting other nations races down makes them feel better about theirs !
Just look at all the folks in here who consider these racially offensive slogans "Normal"
I know some really highly educated Greek diaspora bigots too, even at PhD level there are some nasty nasty Xenophobic pigs
Education is partly the answer but is not a panacea |

Can we get everyone to please send this in to the Greek Community of Melbourne....its about time we stood up to these idiots and demanded something back from them.
All we want is a clubroom to watch our ethniki games and these guys have $50 million in investments yet cant give us this. If we bombard them with emails it will show there is interest.
there email is info@greekcommunity.com.au
The more emails that are sent the more pull we have for this to be done. This is a way of getting a club room for free with no rent. Everyone send this and put your name at the bottom instead of mine
Dear Greek Orthodox Community Of Melbourne,
We write to you expressing our interest in obtaining the currently vacant level 2 of your building located on Lonsdale and Russell St. As you may have heard we are Australiaʼs most recognised Hellenic club and have been looking for a suitable home for the last three months. With a home we will be more organised and be able to further expand our club and the power of the Greek community of Melbourne.
Our club was created on September 19th 2005 and in one year we have become the most recognised organised fan club supporting the Greek national football team and other athletes of Greek background around the globe. Currently we have over 400 Melbourne based members and many more Australia wide in cities such as Sydney and Adelaide who pay an annual $50 membership. A special mention goes to our Honorary Members being Marcos Baghdatis and the entire Greek National Football Team who were inducted personally.
Through our associations we have over 10,000 members in the motherland of Greece with our brother club Galazia Stratia and a further 30,000 members from our brother clubs PAN-SI-FI, Maxhtec and Gate 1 Boys, which are all located in Cyprus. We were the supporters of Marcos Baghdatis at the Australian Open and we are one of the major reasons why he reached the final and there was a large buzz about the 2006 Open being called the "Greek Open". We were the only Greek club in Australia who obtained a strictly Greek supporter section for the Australia vs. Greece friendly football match earlier in the year at the MCG. We are the successful club that attracted over 5,000 participants in a march from Lonsdale St. to the MCG prior to the game. We also have a mailing list of over 40,000 subscribers worldwide.
Our goals are to unite the Greek community once and for all and further support Hellenic athletes. We believe we can do this much more successfully with a home where our members and people of the public can go and socialise with each other. A home will further allow us to organise events and cater to our members and the wider Greek community.
The many advantages of having us on Lonsdale St are:
We will have a home where all Greeks can watch sporting events involving Greece and Cyprus and athletes representing the two nations.
Greek Superliga football matches including Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, AEK Athens and others.
We will have a home where we can educate Greeks and feel proud to be Greek. This will involve conducting educational presentations on Greece and her history.
We will have a home that will provide for both the young and old of the Greek community as a location for socialising amongst fellow Greeks.
We will have a home where we can have nightclub nights, dinner dances and many other events to raise money for charity and other funding.
It is situated in a central location of Melbourne, where Greeks from all suburbs of Melbourne will easily locate and be able to commute to.
We will bring more Greeks to Lonsdale St, which will in turn bring more business to surrounding Greek district shops and help maintain and hopefully expand the Greek community within Lonsdale St.
Sport brings the Greek community of Melbourne together as proven with Euro 2004, Eurobasket 2005, Australian Open tennis and the Australia vs. Greece friendly football match. We have become the most successful club because we work together as one and we hope we can use the same formula along with the Greek Community of Melbourne to further maintain our Hellenic heritage for generations to come.

Galazia Stratia can be whatever they want. They are supporters of the ethniki and before the Euro when there was 5000 people going to games me to zwri who was at the games??
Galazia Stratia!!!
Where were the blue pirates??? Just cause Galazia Stratia has links with Xrisi Avgi doesnt mean shit.....you would expect it in Greece.....
I would rather be brothers with Fascists who hail Metaxas as there hero rather then Communists who hail Che Gueverra as there hero.
Che Gueverra has nothing to do with Greece, yet he is a God there.....shows the bourdello which is ELLADA what it really is like.

QUOTE(wogboy @ Dec 22 2006, 07:28 PM)
I aggree, there is a paradox.
The problem with raising funds is that somebody has to give some money away (rent for free). Nobody likes giving money away, and they will try and find ways not to if they can in this case. The extent to which Hellas Fan Club represents all Greeks is something they will undoubtably question.
I like the fact that the fanclub is trying to organise something. There is nothing wrong with a good idea and some initiative. However, with so many members around and even worldwide, your best bet is to make them pay for it themselves.
Wogboy I dont know if you live in Melbourne but these fools who run the Greek community have destroyed it.
They have 3 levels at the current building which is supposed to be for the COMMUNITY. Since we are the community we want one of the levels.
Out of the 3 levels only level 3 is currently in use and the other 2 levels are just empty space. They have done absolutely nothing with them. They are finally moving a Greek university library to the first level and the second level will still be unoccupied.
They tried having Level 2 a restaurant (one of the board members wanted this himself, as free rent would have been perfect for him in prime land).
All we want is a club room, we dont even wanna make money from it. Let the money go to the Greek Community as long as it is used on the Greek Community. All we want is the Greek Community to succeed in Melbourne which currently is failing.
Without the HFC the Greek Community would have nothing in Melbourne. We are the ONLY ONES who are promoting Nationalism in Greece.
As for Che Gueverra, he might be a good bloke but he has NOTHING to do with Greece, he was not Greek, and is not even in the same league as a Megas Alexandros, Leonidas or Kolokotronis.
Flags of them should be all around Greece....not Che

Either he is a racist or was just chanting along a group without thinking of it or whatever. An apolgy might be appropriate as well.
This ongoing discussion doesn't do any good for no one. He should be grown up enough to see that this incident is harming not only his very own reputation as a person and a Cypriot but also causes trouble on a much greater scale.
Especially under the light of his latest appointment as 'ambassador for intercultural dialogue'. I find this appointment at this very point in time absolutely disgraceful.
Also international media have noted that move of the Republic of Cyprus government with astonishment.
I am afraid you have been caught up in the hype city...
I don't think so. Even if the 'incident' might not be worth the hype it still caused it. And thats exactly the point. |
