DP, here is the free ticket to Cyprus you have been looking for:

http://www.tassospapadopoulos.com/easyconsole.cfm/id/110

I know you were upset about YES voters claiming their tickets...

(Since it is in Greek: This is the TP re-election site, and the page is were interested voters can fill in the form to apply for a paid ticket to fly home to Cyprus and vote for TP.)

I can recommend the comments on the blog part of the site... Also like the spelling mistake in the top menu :D .

It is all Greek to me, as the saying goes but I would be willing to bet a reasonable sum that there is no linking of subsidies for Republic of Cyprus citizens lving abrod (but not those living in the nort of cyprus of course) with a requirement to vote for TP.

If there are subsidies then they are regrdless of who you might vote for.

Unless the Republic of Cyprus is really even more 'bannana republic' than I suspect ?

It is, as always, the political parties that covers the costs, not the government.

...and the actual casting of votes is still secret. you just have to sell your soul...

Really ? I have to say that is most atypical and pretty 'bananna republic'.

If I was on of the challengers to TP on my website I would be encouraging my overseas supporters to make use of this offer resulting in a double bonus of extra votes and draining of TP campaign funds at the same time.

Most bizarre !

Agreed; although all parties has the same offer - one way or another - so your suggested tactic may not work...

I just wanted to list this since some people were surprised that YES/NO voters got paid tickets to come for the referendum.

I can't even remember the number of times we used the free-ticket-ride to come to Cyprus in 90s for an election, when I and my sister were university students in Ankara. The flights were mostly organised by the UBP, the ultimate suckers of the people's taxes. At that time Dervis Eroglu was the leader of the party. Of course, there were more flights from Istanbul to Cyprus compared to Ankara, since there were more Turkish Cypriot students studying there...

I suspect that Greek Cypriots have stolen the idea from us. SHAME ON YOU GUYS!
