Yes boys that is the question>?
I was told that EFES was a beer made in Efesus? Efesus? Isn't that a Greek name? Isn't there a city called Ephesus?
And who told me this? A Turkish Cypriot or should I say a Cypriot who is Muslim!
He told me that the Greeks made it but where forced by gunpoint to leave the brewery behind!
Amazing! cheers or should I say BEERS!
PS So the Turks took out the "PH" and replaced it with a "F"good work!

I highly doubt that your friend is correct. Efes means Ephesus which is a magnificent ancient Greek city in western Turkey, close to Izmir. But I don't think that name has any relation to the past. It's just a name they chose when they started brewing the beer. As a side note, there used to be another Turkish beer called Troy, which means Trojan in Turkish. So you think Turks stole that name from Trojans? Don't believe in everything you hear.

Whenever you visit Cyprus, let me know and if I'm there, promise to have some Efes with you in Lapithos.

Efes is a great beer and if I was Turkish I was going to be more proud to have Efes than anything else. By the way I finished my studies and I live in Cyprus now and in the last couple of weeks that I have been down here I visited the Kerynia harbour and had some cold efes by the boats.

Hey stavrizatz, glad that you like Efes. Apparently it's quite popular among Greek Cypriots that visit the north. I tried a lot of beers both in Cyprus and in the US and Efes is still my favorite, maybe I'm biased :-)

I'm also glad that you got to explore the north a little bit and not got stuck with the official propaganda (i.e. don't visit north or you'll be helping occupation).

I might be in Cyprus for Christmas break and if so, I'd be happy to meet for an Efes at Kyrenia harbour!

If we want to live in peace we have to tolerate some things until they change. I have been crossing over to the occupied areas every second day and when I don't see flags around I feel just like home. While in North I had the chance to visit two interesting personalities: Erdil Nami from Kibris Turk Ticaret Odasi (Turkish Cyprus Chamber of Commerce) and Sener Levent from Africa newspaper. With the first we had an interesting conversation in regards to history and with the second, what can I say: Sener Levent is a legent, he amazed me with his wisdom.
