SYRIAS ASSAD SIGNALS SUPPORT FOR CROSS-BORDER OPERATION
On an official visit to Ankara, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad yesterday voiced his support for Turkeys fight against terrorism. Assad stated that the terrorism in northern Iraq stems from the US. "We support Turkey's decisions regarding terrorism and the fight against terrorism," he said. Assad also emphasized that it is Turkey's legal right to make decisions about how to fight terrorism. /Sabah/

DP Says!
WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
What about IRAN? They must also support Turkey as well! Everyone who doesn't want to see a Kurdish State will support Turkey!

So in this so called cross boarder operation Turkey/Syria/Iran will be bumchums!

Blood for water.

Turkish President Suleyman Demirel, on 5 October backed his threat of force against neighbouring Syria by warning "the entire world" of the consequences if Damascus did not end its support for rebels of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

....

Turkey is demanding that Syria hand over the PKK leader, Abdullah Ocalan, who is reported to be living in Damascus, and to shut down all PKK camps in its territory and the Bekaa Valley in the Lebanon. Turkish sources said unless Syria was prepared to meet the demand, Mr Mubarak's efforts would fail.

The origin of the conflict between the two nations lies in their failure to agree on the status of the Euphrates River.

Syria has long complained that a Turkish scheme to build a string of dams cross the Upper Euphrates as part of the £23 billion SouthEast Anatolia Project, is depriving it of water on which its agriculture so heavily depends.

....

In 1988 the Late President Turgut Ozal said:'' we don't tell Arabs what to do with their oil, so we don't accept any suggestion from them about what to do with our water.''

....

Turkey said it has nothing to discuss until Syria ends its support for the PKK who are grieved by the South Anatolia water project drowning Kurdish villages and orchards.

...

In 1989, when President Assad increased his support for the PKK, Turkey turned off the water flow to Syria and Iraq under the pretext it needs 30 days to fill the Attaturk Lake and test the dam.

It seems Assad has had a change of heart since. Thanks to successful Turkish foreign 'diplomacy'. Too bad the Tigres and Euphrates don't flow through Vienna, Berlin and Paris though, so the 'diplomacy' doesn't seem to be catching on there, with EU ascension and all.

I hardly think that getting Syria on your side is "successful diplomacy"!

You are right of course. Bullying petty dictators in becoming your lap dog and summoning them to praise your greatness doesn't seem much to us, but I guess proud Turkey needs an ego boost from somewhere.. anywhere, with the world breathing down on its neck on what it is about to do.

And who knows.. maybe if Turkey throws a slice to chew off the Iraqi butcher table, Assad might bury the bone like a good lap dog and officially relinquish claims on Alexandretta.

On second thought, Turkey would never bother. It doesn't bargain with something that it has, it only bargains with things it doesn't have.

Such a fanatism from a stupid braindead persons is awaited in this shithole we are in to.

Syria and Iran support Turkey but also Russia support them and if USA will act military against Turkish troops(not in a million) that could cause the 3 rd world war where Turkey will be leading Islam empowered by Russia witch will not be possible to stay and watch and loose this great opportunity to gain back the lost ground, where is well known what Russia have big common interests with Turkey and they want them out of Europe, but also they had make an alliance with Iran and Syria and all the Muslim lunatics and have no place in west in such a war at this time.

Turkey plays a double game (that’s why USA wanted them out of Cyprus by the Anan plan) and by this they gain their lost power in the Islamic world and they also gain biggest benefits in their western issues where America will of course try to limit their power but not directly and not by loosing them from ally and by pushing them in to Europe in every way.

Maybe by this fact there is still some hope that USA will try again to solve the problem in Cyprus to limit their powers, but of course while our side supports the Taliban’s and the Russians and getting spitted from everybody and shows what we have no will to make an alliance with USA there is not one in a million that USA will trust us for another one time in a solution that can’t be much better of what UN have already shown that of course will be much like the Anan plan.
