The historic Bellapais Monastery was turned into a garbage dump after Asil Nadir sons wedding
Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (25.09.07) writes that last Wednesday the 800-years-old historic Bellapais Monastery was turned into a garbage dump after the wedding of the son of Asil Nadir and Aysegul Tesimer.
The paper writes that the tourists who visited the Monastery next day in the morning, despite buying a ticket for the historic monument, they could not have a complete tour, a fact that annoyed them. Moreover, the paper reports that the night of the wedding no one could approach the area and state police was guarding the entrance to the village creating problems to the villagers and their guests from passing.
The music at the wedding lasted until 2:00 am, but the most ridiculous thing was until next morning when tourists visited the Monastery and faced a wreck, a rubbish dump, the paper notes.

PS Did you know WHY the chuch at Bellapais wasnt desecrated like ALL the other chuches in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1974?
Well I went there in 1976 (remeber I am a true blue aussie with a lot of connections) and went into the the church:
Outside where a couple of English ladies and I said it is amazing how the Turks didnt piliage this church like all the others I have seen: She said you can thanks us!
I said why?
Well all the british women living in Belapais ran into the church and saved it:
As soon as the Turkish army came they yelled at us to get out and we refused and then one of the ladies husband was a British army general and threated the Turks and they turned around and left:
Bravo!
The big strong Turkish military machine defeated by a woman!
I asked them what it was like to live under Turkish rule now and they said we have stepped back in time 100 years!
I shouted them a cup a tea and left:
When I went there again in 1983 all but one left!
Then when I went again in 1999 there when more POMS but the cheapo 2 BOB ones who couldnt afford legal Turkish Cypriot houses and bought the stolen Greek Cypriot one for peanuts!
cheers DP! |
