Turkey to spend 50 million dollars on its campaign to become non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2009-2010 term
Under the title Fifty million dollars for the Security Council, Turkish daily Sabah newspaper (08.09.07) reports the following:
Turkey begun to spend money in order to be elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2009-2010 term. Turkey which reserved approximately 50 million dollars for its membership campaign, in order to be elected needs to secure 128 votes out of 192 countries.
What a joke! Maybe Nth Korea and Iran might try next!
cheers
PS Why?
Turkey has one of the worst human rights, anti freedom of speech, and discrimination to the Kurds, Armenians and others! Is that what the UN really represents?
And don't forget Cyprus! There are more UN resolutions on Turkey over Cyprus than any other country in the world!
Maybe they want to reward Turkey for being 1% less Islamic than other countries BUT that 1% is the military! ASK the people what they want and what they think!
Without big brother(Military) watching Turkey would of been a second Iran by now!
cheers again DP! |

You are right 100%: You should have a clean bill of health if you want to be ion the UN!
But who has?
China (With Tibet?)
Russia (With Chechnya?)
France (With Noumea?)
Britain (With the Farwklins?)
USA (With Iraq?)
So we have the 5 permanent member breaking all the rules so what hope have we of ever getting a fair deal!
cheers |

| 50 million is not enough, and it is with acts not money, that one of these powers weidle there way ahead; good PR is everything. Fifty million, representing four percent of a greater budget, for good acts, will turn, these, heads. |
