Good article, i like this bit which imo hits the nail squarely on the head.

Quote: The manner of the Greek rejection was another example (if one were needed) of the folly, self-indulgence and international irresponsibility of nationalist politics. Greek Cypriot leaders wilfully and frenetically misrepresented the terms of the Annan proposals; Greek Orthodox bishops piled in with menacing sermons; the Greek press engaged in weeks of invective and scaremongering; soldiers doing their military service were simply ordered to vote no. But pride of place for irresponsibility and mendacity must go to the president of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos, a conservative politician with a less than stellar record over inter-ethnic violence who had long opposed UN reconciliation efforts and. His speech calling for a "no" vote, delivered just before the referendum, was a masterpiece of ingenuousness.

I should add that the author has not solely put the blame on one side but used the anology of it takes 'two to tango' but has emphasised on this missed opportunity in 2003 due to the likes of Tpap but i guess when he said that the plight of cyprus was settled in 2003 with partition it sent shivers down my spine, anyway worthy of a read without doubt.

Tpap wants his cake and he wants to eat it on his own , the guy is preeching to the people on a daily basis that he is the strong leader who has tamed the Terrible Turk's , yeah right in his dreams , he is the main reason that Cyprus is still split in two !

TPAP is one of the main reasons Cyprus is split in two but is he not just the puppet of the real masters of the division.

Is that not America who wants you split for its own selfish reasons or Britain who simply don't care and haven't done so since 1960 and are only interested in their sovereign bases.

I've said it on here before that the only losers are the ordinary people of Cyprus.

My main concern is that partition is here to stay. The big powers could easily change things if they wanted to but they don't. In time oil will become less and less important and at that stage you will have lost any strategic use you had. What then???

For the life of me I cannot see why the youth of cyprus don't now stand up for themselves and demand change from their leaders. If those leaders don't listen then get rid of them. Or is it simply a case that the tentacles of the Orthodox Church still have a grip on the people and their fear of the Muslim church is too much. Is it the same in reverse?

For three years now I have read with great interest the views of both sides on this platform and the overwhelming feeling I get is that deep down you all want to some degree to be able to move on and call yourselves one Cypriot race without fear or favour.

YET NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND THE SAME DISCUSSIONS REAR THEIR HEAD UNDER DIFFERENT HEADINGS AND THE LEADERS CONTINUE TO ABUSE YOU AND THE WORLD CLEARLY DOESN'T GIVE A ****.

SURELY WHEN YOU WITNESSED BOSNIA YOU SAW YOURSELVES IN THE MIRROR> OR DID YOU SMASH THE GLASS BEFORE IT REGISTERED !!!

'Unbiased, Unbiased' I think you didn't understand what you read mate.

He sets off to blame the greek nationalistic lot for the attack on makarios, not mentioning the whole thing was put in place by its architects the US and the UK. The greek junta was a direct result of the CIA, come on every one knows that.

Then the UK hand in stirring the racial hatred on the island in the first place. The analogy here is not 'takes two to tango' but the US supplied the weapon, the UK pointed it in the right direction and the stupid greeks who pulled the damn trigger. Thats the real analogy.

Then he moves on to blast the Greek Cypriots for not accepting another anglo-american plan to get the dozy Greek Cypriot to agree to, so that we just sign away all the injustices of turkey, hence giving the them the ultimate power to do to cyprus whatever they want in future - mandated by the UN, no return of Greek Cypriots to theirs properties but full return of the Turkish Cypriots to their properties. Turkish forces to remain on the island in large numbers, and the Greek Cypriot Republic of Cyprus ogvernment to pay for the whole reconstruction of the north. Thats just some of the bullshit they want the Greek Cypriots to sign away.

And we are the evil ones, the Turkish Cypriots voted yes, well of course they did, it was like christmas to them why wouldn't they?

No mention of the Greek Cypriot democratic rights, we are not allowed it but anyone else yes. Well, i for one am glad TPap put the anchours on it. This author is either blind or financially rewarded to write this crap that is totally one sided and against the Greek Cypriots side.

So no i dont agree with his writings and they are very biased.

There was much wrong doing on both sides i agree, but you also have to look at the root causes of these and they were helped very well by the US/UK governments.

IMHO

IMHO

Is it Possible and i mean possible that it WAS the Fault of the Greek Cypriot Nationalist that got us in this mess ? oh sorry it is not a done thing to accept blame for one's actions !
You make it sound like the Greek Cypriots were faultless ( this is the minority )
So when someone from the outside points the finger of blame at the Greek Cypriots you immediately put that down to Turkish Cypriot Propaganda.

Indeed it was a stuggle between power brokers, which left citizens to adapt to the mahem this produced.

In that regard, it takes two to tango.

You can't blame Turks or Greeks, or Cypriots who have a pride in these cultural identities, they are exploited by an advesarial regime that feeds hatred, which at that time affected the Occidental world, as much as the Soviet Union, or the rest of the world, with its obsession centered around a military industrial complex, as well as their own exclusivity, toward providing the security they craved during the Cold War.

Accepting the Treaty of Zurich, what did Makarios refuse? And yet, we remained a fiefdom for the interlocutors, even if we were not torn in two.

He may have had dreams, choosing to be patient, toward its fulfilment, and his designs were a big mistake. However this gift that Mankind gave us is something too precious to toss away, as in the later years of his life, he learned.
