From 'The New Anatolian' newspaper.

Officials from the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) (Greek side) are set to hold a landmark meeting with representatives of the Turkish Cypriot football association in the north on September 20 in Zurich.

The meeting, which is being organised by officials from football’s world governing body FIFA and its European body UEFA, aims to find a way of helping the Turkish Cypriots move forward in football.

The breakaway Turkish Cypriot football league is not recognised by FIFA, despite calls from Turkish Cypriot officials to allow their teams to play official international matches.

Turkish Cypriot teams continue to participate in non-recognised football competitions and continuously invite teams to come to the north to train and play friendly matches against their teams, despite protests from the CFA.

UEFA’s Cypriot Vice Chairman Marios Lefkaritis will be present at the meeting, as will UEFA’s Turkish member Senes Erzik.

The Turkish Cypriot football league was formed in 1955 but only Greek Cypriot sides play in official UEFA and FIFA matches.

Not as one sided as you think.

Agreed.

So when are Nea Salamis, Anorthosis and other clubs going back to the grounds, pre-1974, to play?

Quote: Speaking with visiting MPs Ahmet Barcin and Teberruken Ulucay, Mr Fellahoglu referred to the recent issue whereby a match between Luton own and Turkish Cypriot Football team Cetinkaya was cancelled: “Our demand is as it was before 1983 to have permission from FIFA at least to play friendship matches - before 1983 we were able to do this.” Asked, if the reason for this change was the declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1983, Fellahoglu replied: “yes.”
