Most people here have probably not heard of Geocaching, so this is a quick post to raise the profile of it in Cyprus.

What on earth is Geocaching then? Well it's a hobby/sport/game that anyone can take part in! Adults, kids, dogs, full families together. Think treasure hunt on a world wide scale and you're about there. In Cyprus, there are a few British Ex-Pats, servicemen and of course holidaymakers who are active, but very few Greek Cypriots/Turkish Cypriots. Why is this?

If you're interested in getting out & about with a purpose and seeing some parts of Cyprus that you would never otherwise see, then have a look at the links below to see what it's all about.

There are currently 86 'Caches' in Cyprus waiting to be discovered as can be seen here, but this number will grow (There are almost 20000 in the UK now!). As well as searching for existing caches, it's also just as much fun placing them and getting others to find yours.

Hi Murf62, I am to see others in Cyprus interested in the sport. I am the president of the outdoor club of my university and with the club we often go hiking and we combine it with geocaching.

At the following link there are few photos from our geocaching adventure at Wilson's Promontory (the most Southern point of Australia mainland). You can recognise me with the blue bandana.

Also I found a cache without GPS by total chance at the southpoint at Wilson's Prom last time we went, I couldn't believe it :)

ps In September when I come to Cyprus I am hoping to find all the geocaches there! ;)

Nice one. It will certainly take you a while to do them all. My 'Karpasian Adventure' caches alone will take pretty much a full day.

I have still got 40 to find out of the 86 & I've got another 18 months to do it, so no mad rush! Will look forward to reading your logs in September. :)

I have more or less 6 months in Cyprus so we'll see. I'll certainly find the ones in Cape Greco as I will be living in the area and those around Lefkosia.

the rest depends how many trips I'll go.

Looks good, Erol. Soon I would be too ashamed to take my mazda north. There was a time when everybody looked in amazement ...

A visitor from Canada has been to one of my caches today.

Anyone know where it is by looking at the pics in the gallery? ;)

Maybe their site was down when you tried. I've just tried and they work fine. Give it another go.

Hi - We have just purchased a property near Polis and look forward to Geocaching when we are out there. We currently own a Garmin GPS unit - please advise where we can obtain local mapping data from for this unit. Does Garmins 'Mapsource' cover the area?
Many Thanks
